Good morning,

Rare Earth Metals refers to a group of metallic elements
that are used in many electronic devices, televisions,
motors, computers and even "green" products like low
energy light bulbs, solar panels and wind turbines.

So they are extremely important to modern society and the
economy, but they are difficult to find in commercially
viable quantities and are extremely expensive and hazardous
to refine. So they create a huge environmental impact. And
they are also becoming more and more difficult to find as
demand continually increases.

But if we can't live without them what is the answer? Like
always; recycle, recycle, recycle.

Thanks for reading,

Currently only around 1 percent of rare earth metals are
reclaimed from discarded products. However, some companies
are making inroads into recycling operations.

The rare earth issue is an important reason to recycle
electronic equipment rather than sending it to landfill.
Everything from computer hard drives to air conditioning
compressors.

Solar panel recycling efforts are also well under way.
Rare metals aside, over 90 percent of the materials making
up a solar panel's weight can be recycled!
