Stories of stupidity on this scale highlight the fact that
man-made global warming is still a theory, as the detractors
are fond of pointing out.

But it is not important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
and the use of fossil fuels and other industrial poisons
because the average global temperature may or may not rise
several degrees in the next 50 to a hundred years, altering
ecosystems world wide.

It IS important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the
use of fossil fuels because industrial poisons will kill the
planet.

The proof of that is all around us. Acid rain, deforestation,
desertification, poisoned water, entire species being wiped
out of existence, droughts, the food chain being disrupted
from micro-organisms on up, increases in the rates of res-
piratory diseases, cancer, infertility, soil erosion, toxic
waste seepage and even more subtle crises like the economic
impact of a finite and dwindling natural resources.

The only solution is to find renewable and most importantly
safer alternatives to the resources and the methods we are
using now.
