Evelyn Lauder Dies at 75...

With the nation awash with pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Evelyn Lauder certainly left her mark.

Evelyn, the daughter-in-law of the late cosmetics magnate Estee Lauder, died Saturday at her Manhattan home from complications of non-genetic ovarian cancer, according to reports. She was 75.

It was Evelyn, along with her friend and former Self editor-in-chief Alexandra Penney, who created the pink ribbon campaign for breast cancer awareness in 1992. Evelyn learned she had breast cancer in 1989, though she brought little attention to her own battle, instead focusing on women's health in general.

She recently reflected on the campaign's origins, a time when she and her husband, Leonard, paid for the little bows handed out at department store makeup counters to remind shoppers about breast examinations. Evelyn also founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which has raised more than $350 million.

Oprah Receives an Honorary Oscar...

Oprah has a new favorite thing: Oscar.

In an emotional evening that saw Winfrey wiping away tears and leaning heavily on longtime partner Stedman Graham, the former talk show host accepted the Academy of Motion Picture's Arts & Science's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, given periodically for philanthropic efforts.

"I never imagined receiving an Oscar, especially for doing what is part of my calling, part of my being," said Oprah, 57, who gave an Oscar-nominated performance in 1985's The Color Purple and was a producer on the films Beloved and Precious.

"If you are not a former colored girl born in Mississippi in 1954," she said, "it is impossible for you to know what this journey has meant."

On hand for the event were such friends of Oprah as Tyler Perry, Sidney Poitier, Gayle King, John Travolta and Maria Shriver, who helped present the award to her former WJZ Baltimore colleague.

"We found each other through our shared struggles, our shared dreams, and our unconditional belief in who the other wanted to be," said Shriver.

Also receiving Oscars Saturday night at the third annual Governors Awards held at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland, above the Kodak Theatre, were James Earl Jones, who accepted his from the stage in London, where he is performing in Driving Miss Daisy, and makeup guru Dick Smith, who created groundbreaking effects in movies such as The Exorcist and The Godfather.

Soldier primed for big night out with Justin Timberlake...

The soldier who invited Justin Timberlake to a Marine Corps ball in Washington, D.C. is all set for her big date on Saturday night.

Corporal Kelsey de Santis posted a video on YouTube.com and asked the pop star-turned-actor to be her date - and Justin accepted.

That was back in July, after the "Cry Me a River" singer persuaded his "Friends With Benefits" co-star Mila Kunis to accept a similar invite to another upcoming military party - and now the big date is here.

De Santis, who is stationed at the Marine Corps base at Quantico, Virginia, admits she's not quite sure what to expect, but her friends have suggested she should challenge Justin to a dance-off.

She tells "Access Hollywood," "They know all about my skills... but I honestly don't think he'll be able to keep up with the group of people that I have. We have a whole table set up."

And she's not ruling out a romantic night: "I'm single... I guess that's up to J.T. and what his plans are. I would never force anything upon him or anything like that."

Mila will step out with Sergeant Scott Moore at another Marine Corps ball later this month.

This star has assured fans a stunt showing a pet dog in the skies above New York City was a prank, after angry animal rights activists took aim at him...

It's Nick Cannon....

Mariah Carey's husband detailed the joke on his 92.3 Now FM morning radio show on Thursday, claiming the incident had gone awry because the pooch, named Charlie Roo and belonging to his co-host Sarah Lee Owensby, had since gone missing.

Video footage posted on the radio station's website appeared to show as small dog attached to balloons, floating up into the clouds before disappearing from view, and campaigners at People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA) lashed out at Nick.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk raged, "If bad taste were a crime, we'd be going to jail with Nick, but joking about killing a dog, a kid, an old person - anyone - isn't cool when there's always the danger that some numbskull will do it for real."

But Nick has played down the stunt, insisting he "really loves dogs" - and revealing the prank involved a stuffed animal, not a real pooch.

In a video shot prior to the incident, he says, "I won a bet with Sarah Lee, and Im about to play the meanest joke on her ever. This whole time I've been acting like I don't like dogs, but I really love dogs. I'm a dog person... But I'm pretending that I want to float Charlie Roo with balloons!

"I'm not really gonna float a dog. I'm gonna float a stuffed animal that looks just like Charlie Roo."
