Jon Polito, 'Big Lebowski' star dead at 65
Actor Jon Polito, best known for his roles in Coen brother films such as The Big Lebowski, has died at the age of 65.
Polito's friend, film director John McNaughton, confirmed the news Friday on Facebook alongside a photo of the pair together.
"Very sad to learn that my dear friend and collaborator, Jon Polito has passed away," McNaughton wrote. John is probably best known for his work in Coen Brothers films, notably Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing and The Big Lebowski."
"Jon and I worked together in TV starting with episodes of Homicide: Life on the Street, some pilots and Masters of Horror. He appeared in over 100 films, countless TV episodes and on Broadway. Jon was a born actor and will be deeply missed by his legion of friends, fans, family and of course his long time partner, Darryl Armbruster to whom I send my condolences. R.I.P. old pal," he continued.
Polito's cause of death has yet to be revealed.
More recently, Polito starred in three episodes of Modern Family as character Earl Chambers, a rival to Ed O' Neill's Jay Pritchett at work. He also landed a role in upcoming film The Maestro which is currently in pre-production.

Mel Gibson confirms development of 'Passion of the Christ' follow-up, 'The Resurrection'
Mel Gibson confirmed that he is developing a follow-up to The Passion of the Christ entitled The Resurrection.
"And you know, it's not the Passion 2. It's called The Resurrection," Gibson clarified recently while discussing the project with Pastor Greg Laurie at the 2016 SoCal Harvest, a christian event according to IndieWire.
"Of course, that's a very big subject and it needs to be looked at because we don't want to just do a simple rendering of it - you know, read what happened," the filmmaker continued.
Previously, screenwriter Randall Wallace, who worked with Gibson on Braveheart, confirmed that a Passion of the Christ follow-up was in the works noting, "The Passion is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell."
"In order to read it, experience and explore probably deeper meanings of what it's about, it's going to take some doing and Randall Wallace is up to the task,' Gibson added of his screenwriting partner who also penned his latest film, Hacksaw Ridge.
Released in 2004, The Passion of the Christ starring Jim Caviezel, Maia Morgenstern and Monica Bellucci was a box-office smash taking in more then $600 million globally.
