Miles Teller joins cast of 'Top Gun: Maverick'
Miles Teller has been cast in upcoming sequel Top Gun: Maverick which features a returning Tom Cruise in the lead role.

Teller will be featured in the film as the son of Goose and the new protege of Cruise's Maverick, Variety reported.

Goose, portrayed by Anthony Edwards, was Maverick's former co-pilot in the original Top Gun from 1986 who suffered an untimely death.

"I feel the need..." Teller said on Twitter Tuesday, a reference to a famous line from the original film.

Top Gun: Maverick, set for release on July 12, 2019, will follow Maverick in the present day as he deals with the rise of drone technology that is making his style of jet fighter flying obsolete. Val Kilmer will also star, reprising his role as pilot Iceman who was Maverick's rival.

Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on Oblivion, is directing the film with Jerry Bruckheimer returning to produce. German composer Harold Faltermeyer, who created the score for the original film, will also return.

Yvette Nicole Brown replaces Chris Hardwick at Comic-Con
Actress and television personality Yvette Nicole Brown confirmed Wednesday she will fill in for Chris Hardwick as panel host at San Diego Comic-Con.

"I will say this once. I am filling in for a friend, which I have done before. I am not jockeying for a job. I have enough of my own. It is my prayer that God's Will is done in the midst of this process & that everyone is okay. My character is known & sound. Nothing has changed," the Mom and Community star tweeted Wednesday.

Brown's social media post followed a Deadline.com report Tuesday, which said Brown would replace Hardwick as host of The Walking Dead panel at SDCC on July 20. The article also speculated she could take over Talking Dead if AMC does not permit Hardwick to return as that series' host.

Hardwick's post-show analysis program -- on which Brown frequently is a guest -- was suspended last month while the network investigates his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra's allegations against him of sexual and emotional abuse. Hardwick denied any wrongdoing while acknowledging he and Dykstra were not a good match.

Linda Hunt: 'No serious injuries' after car crash
Oscar-winning actress Linda Hunt said she was involved in a traffic crash this week, but not seriously injured.

"Yesterday, I was involved in a minor traffic accident and taken to the hospital. I'm pleased to report I'm recovering well and have no serious injuries. Thank you for all the well wishes! I'm looking forward to starting production on NCIS: Los Angeles later this summer," Hunt said in a statement to CBS2 in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

TMZ reported the 73-year-old actress was driving a black BMW SUV when she made a left turn and collided with a car and another SUV.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash.

In addition to being a longtime NCIS cast member, Hunt is known for her roles in the films The Year of Living Dangerously, Dune, Silverado, Kindergarten Cop, Pocahontas and Stranger Than Fiction.

Nia Vardalos, Ian Gomez divorcing
Writer-actress Nia Vardalos confirmed she and her husband, actor Ian Gomez, are divorcing.

The couple -- whose romance inspired the popular My Big Fat Greek Wedding stage, film and TV franchise -- tied the knot in 1995 and separated last year. They are the parents of an 11-year-old daughter.

Vardalos listed irreconcilable differences as the cause of the split in court documents she filed Tuesday. She also requested joint legal and physical custody of their only child.

"We've been respectfully separated for a lengthy period of time. Our relationship became a friendship so the decision to end the marriage is completely mutual and amicable. It is our hope that decency will prevail on the reporting of this story which will soon be yesterday's news. Thank you for respecting our privacy," Vardalos and Gomez said in a joint statement.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding started out as Vardalos' one-woman stage show, which she adapted into a blockbuster movie in 2002. It was followed by the short-lived, 2003 TV sitcom My Big Fat Greek Life and big-screen sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 in 2016. John Corbett played the character of Gomez in the movies.

The real Gomez is known for his roles in Felicity, Cougar Town and Supergirl.

The film, directed by Deadpool helmer Tim Miller, is set to arrive in theaters on July 26, 2019.
