Padma Lakshmi supports 'Top Chef' contestant amid cancer battle
Padma Lakshmi is showing her support for a Top Chef contestant with cancer.
The 47-year-old Top Chef host said in an Instagram post Tuesday that she visited Fatima Ali in the hospital prior to the Season 15 hopeful undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.
"I'd love it if everyone joins me today in saying a special prayer for our @cheffati who went into surgery a couple hours ago," Lakshmi captioned a photo with Ali at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
"She was in good spirits when we walked her into OR, and am hoping for a great outcome today. #topchef," she added.
Ali was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare type of bone and soft tissue cancer, in the fall. The 28-year-old chef said in a post on her own account that she was having a tumor removed from her left shoulder.
"Going in for surgery today to get that tumor out of my left shoulder. Feeling content knowing I have so many well wishers and prayers from all around the world," she wrote.
Ali previously told Bravo's The Daily Dish that her fellow Season 15 contestants and Lakshmi have supported her since her diagnosis.
"All of the contestants have reached out in many ways; we are a tight group. I've had an outpouring of lovely messages and care packages from the production team and the producers. And Padma has been wonderful," she said.
Top Chef Season 15 airs Thursdays on Bravo.

Carrie Coon is going to be a first-time mom.
The 36-year-old actress is pregnant and expecting her first child with husband and The Post co-star Tracy Letts, according to Us Weekly.
Coon quietly debuted her baby bump at the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 11, but didn't confirm her pregnancy until Tuesday.
"It's true!" she tweeted alongside a headline about the news.
Coon and Letts, a 52-year-old actor and playwright, married in September 2013 after appearing together in a Broadway production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Coon is known for playing Nora Durst in The Leftovers and Gloria Burgle in Fargo Season 3. She will next star in the movie Widows with Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Erivo.

'The Flash' standalone film 'Flashpoint' taps new directors
Writer and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in negotiations to direct Warner Bros.' upcoming Flash standalone film Flashpoint starring Ezra Miller.
Daley and Goldstein became frontrunners after Warner. Bros. approached Batman star Ben Affleck to helm the film, but he declined, Variety reported.
The filmmaking duo are best known for penning Horrible Bosses, for writing and directing the Vacation reboot from 2015 and for helping to write Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming. Daley and Goldstein have also directed the upcoming comedy Game Night starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams that is set to arrive in theaters on Feb. 23.
Daley and Goldstein are the third helmers attached to the Flash project following the exit of Seth Grahame-Smith in April 2016 and then Rick Famuyiwa in November 2016. Both filmmakers left the film over creative differences.
Miller's Flash was first introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad in cameo roles. The Flash was then a featured character in Justice League, released in November.

Which actor is donating his salary from a forthcoming Woody Allen movie to charity?
Timothée Chalamet is donating his salary from a forthcoming Woody Allen movie to charity.
The 22-year-old actor vowed in an Instagram post Monday to give his pay from Allen's film A Rainy Day in New York to Time's Up, an equality and anti-harassment campaign, RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, and The LGBT Center in New York.
"I have been asked in a few recent interviews about my decision to work on a film with Woody Allen last summer," he wrote. "I'm not able to answer the question directly because of contractual obligations. But what I can say is this: I don't want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities."
Chalamet said he came to the decision after "learning that a good role isn't the only criteria for accepting a job" and witnessing "the birth of a powerful movement" in the wake of sexual harassment and abuse allegations against powerful Hollywood players.
"I want to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve," he said.
Chalamet's co-star Rebecca Hall announced Friday she will donate her salary to Time's Up. She referenced longstanding allegations Allen sexually abused his daughter Dylan Farrow as a child in a post explaining the decision.
"After reading and re-reading Dylan Farrow's statements of a few days ago and going back and reading the older ones - I see, not only how complicated this matter is, but that my actions have made another woman feel silenced and dismissed," the actress said. "I am profoundly sorry."
Allen has previously denied the allegations of abuse. A Rainy Day in New York will open in theaters this year.
