Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez skipped Globes for Puerto Rico relief trip
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez skipped the 2018 Golden Globe Awards to take a relief trip to Puerto Rico.

The 48-year-old singer/actress and 42-year-old retired MLB star traveled to the country Sunday to follow up on their fundraising efforts in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

"I could have been [at the Golden Globes], but I wanted to be here," Lopez told Good Morning America, who followed the couple on their trip. "I chose to be here."

The "Amor, Amor, Amor" singer wore black during her visit as a sign of solidarity with the Time's Up equality and anti-harassment movement and its followers. She called for equality for Puerto Ricans in the GMA segment.

"We just want to be treated equally. We're Americans," the star, who is of Puerto Rican heritage, said. "We're here to kind of shine a light and let everybody know, like [Alex] said, 'We're in our first inning. We have a long way to go.'"

Lopez and Rodriguez helped raise $35 million for hurricane relief efforts in October. The couple announced $2 million in aid for federally-qualified community health centers, and will help allocate the remaining funds.

"We had high hopes that, you know, it was going to be further along than it is," Lopez said of rebuilding efforts. "But there's still a lot of work to be done."

"It was important for us to follow up and come down here and see with our own eyes," Rodriguez added.

Lopez shared a photo with Rodriguez from their trip on Instagram, calling their visit "an amazing enlightening heartbreaking and yet hopeful day."

"We made it down to Puerto Rico for the first time since the hurrican and our Somos concerts. Still many miles to go....but grateful to go the distance side by side with this amazing buy.... #hesmybestie #hesmyman #hesmysuperhero," she wrote.

'Fixer Upper' star Joanna Gaines says restaurant will open 'soon'
Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines will soon open the doors to her first restaurant.

The 39-year-old television personality said in an Instagram post Tuesday that she and husband Chip Gaines are "getting so close" to opening Magnolia Table.

Joanna shared a slideshow of photos of herself and Chip cementing their handprints outside the establishment. The couple purchased the restaurant, formerly known as Elite Cafe, in May 2016.

"The restaurant is getting so close. Magnolia Table will be open soon and we can't believe it?!? Chip + Jo," Joanna wrote.

Chip recently shared his vision for the Waco, Texas, restaurant in an interview with Southern Living. The 43-year-old television personality and author described the new eatery as "a breakfast joint" poised to open in the summer.

"I've always been a breakfast connoisseur. I always do a heavy, bigger breakfast, but Jo is the exact opposite. She was kind enough to come with me on this one," Chip said.

"The restaurant itself is literally one big giant kitchen. When we first got in there, it was all the things you can imagine," he confessed. "But if I took you in there today, you'd be like, 'Oh! This is so clean, everything smells so great.'"

Joanna's update follows news she is pregnant and expecting her fifth child. She and Chip, who are already parents to 12-year-old Drake, 11-year-old Ella, 9-year-old Duke and 7-year-old Emmie, shared an announcement this month.

Chip and Joanna came to fame on Fixer Upper, which will end after Season 5 on HGTV. The pair explained in an interview with Today in October that they were ending the show to "focus" on their marriage.

"I'm in a room with my kids and I'm doing really well until my wife walks in! They just dump me."
--Alec Baldwin, on how "kids are obsessed with their mothers," to PEOPLE
