1 Corinthians 12:18-25

But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.

And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.

And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need.

But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.

There are many times when a writer in the Bible uses a physical illustration to describe a spiritual concept.

Consider the example below of the eye; each of us at some time or another have had something in our eye. All other activity must stop until we get the offending item out of our eye. We need that eye and want to protect it.

Yet the eye does not control any major life-sustaining functions of the body. Even though compared to other parts of our body it may not seem as important, not one of us would say, "Who cares, I'm not going to worry about an eye."

Each believer is a part of the "body" which is the church. Each one has a function within the body, and is not to be ignored or scorned.

A. The man of God was told not to eat bread nor drink water, nor go back by the way he came, but he did all of those things.


And he said, "I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place..."

He said to him, "I too am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, 'Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.'" (He was lying to him.)

So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.

1 Kings 13:16-19


The man of God listened to the old prophet who lied to him about his message from an angel. We need to obey what God tells us to do and not be swayed by second hand information, even if it comes from a prophet.
