Netflix orders 'Carmen Sandiego' with Gina Rodriguez
Netflix has officially ordered a new Carmen Sandiego series with Gina Rodriguez.
The 32-year-old actress will voice the titular globe-trotting thief in an animated reboot based on the 1980s computer game Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Carmen Sandiego will premiere a 20-episode first season in 2019. The show will follow a young Carmen and answer how and why she became a super thief.
Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard will co-star as Player, Carmen's friend and chief accomplice. Rodriguez confirmed her role in the series Friday after word of the project broke.
"I already have the fedora and coat. So it's definitely true," she tweeted in response to a fan inquiry.
Carmen Sandiego originated as a computer game series that later inspired a game show and a television and book series. Rita Moreno voiced Carmen in Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?, which had a four-season run on Fox from 1994 to 1999.
Rodriguez is best known for playing Jane Villaneuva on Jane the Virgin, which premiered a third season on The CW in October. The series co-stars Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas and Justin Baldoni.

The University of Tennessee offers Dolly Parton history course
The University of Tennessee in Knoxville is offering an honors history course on legendary country singer/songwriter and actress Dolly Parton.
The course, called Dolly's America: From Sevierville to the World, follows the Tennessee native's life from "'hillbilly' girl from Appalachia" who "grew up to become an international one-word sensation," the course descriptions reads.
Students will read Dolly Parton's book Dolly: My Life, other books about Appalachia and watch TV shows that gave a look into Appalachia in pop culture.
The course description states, "At the end of the class, each student writes a 10-page work answering the question "'What was Dolly Parton's America?'"
Dr. Lynn Sacco, the course instructor, said the idea came to her when she saw Parton speak at the university's graduation years ago.
"They gave her an honorary degree. And tears streamed down and she said 'I was voted the least likely to succeed at my high school' took the bus the next day and headed to Nashville," Sacco said.
Parton continues to give back to her home state -- her Dollywood Foundation donated $1,000 a month for six months to families displaced by the Tennessee wildfire in November 2016.
"As you may know by now, there have been terrible wildfires in the Great Smoky Mountains, the same mountains where I grew up and where my people call home," she said in a statement.
"I have always believed that charity begins at home, and my home is someplace special. That's why I've asked my Dollywood companies ... to help me establish the 'My People Fund,'" she continued.
Rosamund Pike to play war reporter Marie Colvin in new film
British actress Rosamund Pike will play war reporter Marie Colvin in a forthcoming film.
The 38-year-old star will portray Colvin, the late American journalist who worked for the British newspaper The Sunday Times, in a new biopic from Thunder Road Pictures, Variety reported.
Colvin reported on major conflicts in countries across the world, including in Sri Lanka, where she lost sight in her left eye in 2001. The reporter, who wore an eyepatch after the injury, died in a rocket attack in 2012 while reporting on the siege of Homs in Syria.
Cartel Land director Matthew Heineman will helm the film, with Erica Lee as executive producer, and Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and Marissa McMahon of Kamala Films as producers. Deadline reported production will begin in Britain and the Middle East in October.
Pike is known for playing Miranda Frost in the James Bond movie Die Another Day, and has since appeared in Jack Reacher and Gone Girl. She also will star in Hostiles with Christian Bale and High Wire Act with Jon Hamm.

Which musician said that 'Cannabis is the best martial aid'?
Melissa Etheridge said she smokes marijuana regularly and it's brought her closer to her family.
"I have smoked with my older two," the singer admits to Yahoo as part of their new project, Weed & the American Family about her adult children, Bailey, 20 and Beckett, 18.
"It was funny at first, and then they realized, it's a very natural, end-of-the-day [thing] ... And it brings you much closer. I'd much rather have a smoke with my grown kids than a drink," she continued.
Etheridge who has her own line of cannabis products titled Etheridge Farms, also discussed how marijuana has a positive effect on her marriage to Linda Wallem.
"Cannabis is the best marital aid," the musician added. "It is good medicine for a relationship."
"Let's get personal here," she continued. "There are certain strains [of weed] - you get a nice indica on a Friday night when it's date night, and it takes down your inhibitions. Your sexual desires are enhanced. I recommend this for relationships."
When asked when the couple partake in smoking marijuana, Etheridge said "when the kids are going to bed."
"That's sort of how it ends up. When the family's there, once everybody gets to sleep, it's our time. It's Mama time... We take a bath every night and smoke, talk, wind down, and sleep a very, very good night's sleep."
