Simply dunking them in a solution of three parts water to one part white vinegar will destroy any mold spores or bacteria on them. Rinse, dry and store them in an airtight container lined with paper towels to absorb moisture and - presto!- they'll last an extra week.

and keep crumbs and dirt from falling to the bottom. Change the newspaper about once a week.
