Anything Goes - March 20, 2014

Greetings...

Have you ever come to a realization that you may belong on a TV reality series based on a personal discovery of sorts?

I'll tell you my little story and let you guess which TV show you think I might deserve to be on, or a variation of that show...

I sat down and decided to plan and plot out my house's much awaited "Spring cleaning 2014", the comeback tour...

While my brain was in overdrive and I mentally went from room to room cleaning from top to bottom, I finally had to pick a room to start in and I decided on the kitchen, which in my opinion, was going to be the hardest room in the house...

I started emptying the cabinets one by one and washed everything that was in there, followed by cleaning the inside of the cabinets, followed by the outside of the cabinets. Sure, by cabinet 4 I was kicking myself for starting this project, but actually happy that I was able to do this and enjoy the end result one cabinet at a time...

Although it may have been a while since I was able to deep clean, it has been a really long time since I emptied, cleaned and put back stuff in the cabinets. A lot longer than I thought when I got to the cabinets under and next to the sink which contained cleaning products...

I started pulling bottles, sprays, containers, cans, and any and everything that contained some kind of cleaning product. My, my, I guess I used to really clean my house, I thought to myself!

When I was still hauling cleaning products out on the third cabinet, it was then I realized I may have a problem and might have to seek a 12-step program to help me. Since I trust all of you so much and we've been through so much together, I felt the need to come to you before going to anyone else...

Hello...My name is Jamie and I am...a hoarder...of cleaning products...

(Hanging head in shame)...

Yessireee folks, I don't really know when this started or even how this started, all I know is that unless cleaning supplies have sex in the dark corners of the cabinets without adequate birth control, I must be responsible for having 7, (YES, SEVEN) bottles of granite cleaner, (various brands), 4 cans of Endust, (Even living in Arizona might allow you two on a shelf). I won't do the counts of every product, but let's just say you know something is wong when three cabinets in the kitchen have cleaning supplies and in addition, the laundry room cabinets, linen cabinets, garage cabinets and obviously any other cabinets upstairs all contain some kind of cleaning products!!!

I don't know the how's and why's of this problem, I know some people build bunker type homes and stockpile food and supplies because of doomsday predictions and various other "reasons", but I am not aware of any situation that caused people to rally others to stockpile cleaning supplies in bulk in case of some catastrophic event such as....

DIRT-A-GEDDON!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKK!!!!

As I separated and stacked the supplies according to category, I felt guilty for the excess cleaning supplies and I swear I could hear my mother saying. "There are people all over the world that have no granite to clean!"

I made a promise to myself right then and there to get a hold of this problem and made a mental promise to never buy another cleaning product until I use what I have. I actually nodded at my decision and started putting things back, nice and neat. On my way to the laundry room, I spotted something I completely forgot about...

A BIG box of various cleaning supplies I purchased after watching a Shark Tank episode. Before you "judge", let me plead my case on this newest, most recent purchase of "cleaning stuff"...

Since my lungs have been compromised for months and months, any time I would use one of the cleaners I have on hand, the fumes would give me bad breathing problems and I would actually get sick for a day or two after using them. The products I bought are all natural and give me no problem at all, so I guess you could say this was a "medicinal purchase"...

I plan on working hard on my "problem", but I won't lie to you, I'm concerned and a little afraid...

The next cabinets on my list are the bathroom vanities, linen cabinets, and "spare" cabinets. Why am I concerned?

Because as bad as I am when it comes to hoarding cleaning supplies, I am REALLY bad when it comes to beauty supplies and products, I have been known to, uh...

BULK Shop...

One more thing before I go...

So many of you have written and asked about the old blogs where everyone could comment on the current issue and yes, even discuss it with others. The blogs were replaced a few years ago by the archives. You can comment on every issue just like before after you sign up to get access. It's easy and the link to the archives is always included at the end of each one of my columns, (if you continue to scroll down to the end). I do, from time to time pop in to the archives to add something, although I can't promise I will be a "regular at this time...

However, as the saying goes..."Tawk amungst yerselves" and maybe I'll join you from time to time!"

:-)
