49ers to play Broncos in London in 2010

The San Francisco 49ers will play the Denver Broncos next
season at Wembley Stadium, the fourth straight year the NFL
will stage a regular-season game in the British capital.
The 49ers will be listed as the home team for the Oct. 31
game. "For the past three years we have seen the extraordinary
passion that exists for NFL football in the U.K.," NFL
commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "We want
to continue to build on that passion by strengthening our
ties to our existing U.K. fans and creating new ones."
The game between the five-time Super Bowl champion 49ers
and two-time winner Broncos may not be the only one in
Britain next season. "The NFL will continue to explore
the possibility of playing a second game in the UK in
2010," the NFL said. The 49ers and Broncos struggled to
8-8 records this season and missed the playoffs.
The NFL has played games at Wembley for the last three
seasons, with more than 80,000 fans at each game. The
first game featured the eventual Super Bowl champion
New York Giants beating the Miami Dolphins 13-10. In
2008, the New Orleans Saints beat the San Diego Chargers
37-32. And this season, the New England Patriots defeated
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7 in October. "The previous
games in London have had a playoff-like atmosphere to
them, so that's always a good thing to play in that
type of an environment," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels
said. "We'll be ready for the challenge." The 49ers
dominated the NFL in the 1980s, winning four Super
Bowls with Joe Montana as the star quarterback. The team
won another Super Bowl in 1994. "London is a wonderful
venue for two of the most storied franchises in NFL history
to square off," 49ers president Jed York said. San Francisco
coach Mike Singletary, who is giving up a home game to play
in London, said his players won't be bothered by the long
flight to England. "I have no doubt that our players will
be ready to go," he said. "What a great opportunity it is
for us to play in such a setting." The Broncos have
played seven international exhibition games in the
past, and team president Pat Bowlen said they were
"honored" to come to Britain again. "It's a wonderful,
historic opportunity for our franchise and will be an
unforgettable experience for our players, coaches and
fans," Bowlen said. Aside from Wembley, Manchester and
Glasgow, Scotland, are being looked at as potential
venues to host NFL games. In October, before the
New England-Tampa Bay game, Goodell said the idea of
eventually putting an expansion team in London was of
"tremendous interest" to the NFL. He gave no timeline
when such a decision might be taken.

Saints bring back RB Deuce McAllister

Saints coach Sean Payton says running back and fan favorite
Deuce McAllister is back with the team for the playoffs.
McAllister practiced at the club's suburban headquarters and
could be activated for Saturday's divisional round playoff
game against the Arizona Cardinals. Payton confirmed the
decision in a text message to The Associated Press. WWL-AM,
the radio station that broadcasts Saints games, first reported
the move. The 31-year-old McAllister was waived by the team
shortly after last season. He has been working out on his own
and rehabbing a knee injury. He is the Saints' career rushing
leader. His 55 total touchdowns and 49 rushing TDs also are
club records.

Bengals' Ochocinco to Pro Bowl

The Cincinnati Bengals say that wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has
been added to the AFC's Pro Bowl team. It's the sixth time
Ochocinco has made the Pro Bowl, which will be played Jan.
31 in south Florida. He replaces the injured Wes Welker of
New England. Ochocinco was the second alternate, but first
alternate Randy Moss of New England is also hurt.
As a ninth-year pro, Ochocinco led the Bengals with 72
receptions, 1,047 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Punter Tim Masthay Signs

JSOnline.com reported that the Green Bay Packers signed P
Tim Masthay. NFL Draft Scout says he might be a better
kickoff specialist then punter, but as a punter he was a
first team All-SEC selection in 2008. He signed with the
Colts after the draft, but was waived in August. He's also
tried out Buccaneers and Patriots. It looks like he's got a
powerful leg, but maybe the accuracy isn't there if he hasn't
been able to make a team. It's not a big signing, but the
Packers need to do something about their awful special
teams, and finding any competition for P Jeremy Kapinos
is a good place to start.

Fewell officially Giants DC

Perry Fewell is still the only man known to have interviewed
for the Giants? defensive coordinator vacancy. Now it turns
out Tom Coughlin may not need to interview anyone else.
Fewell has decided to accept an offer to become the Giants?
next defensive coordinator, according to a report on ESPN.
The report says Fewell hasn?t officially notified the Giants
yet, but the team has been told ?they can expect to land their
man.? A Giants spokesman would not confirm that report.
Meanwhile, one team source confirmed that they are waiting
on Fewell?s decision, but that they have not yet heard
anything official from him. ?No decision yet. Still
evaluating. Hopefully (he?ll make a decision) by the
weekend,? a source close to Fewell told the News.
Calls and e-mails to his agent were not immediately returned.
Fewell, the former Buffalo Bills interim coach, had been home
since Monday trying to decide whether he preferred to work as
the defensive coordinator of the Giants or the Bears. He
interviewed with both teams for the same position. And while
his agent insisted he had no offers from either team, one
source close to Fewell said he was led to believe either
job would be his if he was interested.
While Fewell was pondering his options, both Romeo Crennel
and Jim Haslett declined offers to interview for the same
job with the Giants. Haslett is now the defensive coordinator
of the Redskins and Crennel is the defensive coordinator of
the Chiefs.
