NFL doesn't have a problem with 'Skins sign ban

The NFL is OK with the Washington Redskins' preventing fans
from bringing any signs to home games. League spokesman
Greg Aiello called it "a team and stadium matter" in an
e-mail to The Associated Press on Thursday. Redskins COO
David Donovan said during a radio appearance on 106.7 The
Fan this week that spectators can't carry signs or banners
into the stadium. He said the new ban is for fan security
and comfort. The policy coincides with an increase of signs
critical of owner Dan Snyder and front office chief Vinny
Cerrato during Washington's 2-5 start. Aiello wrote that
NFL teams are responsible for preventing the display of signs
that obstruct sightlines or "which are inflammatory, derogatory
or generally in bad taste."

NFL extends Cardinals' blackout deadline 24 hours

The NFL has given the Arizona Cardinals a 24-hour extension
to the television blackout deadline for Sunday's game in
Glendale against the Carolina Panthers. In order to air live on
local television, league rules require games to be sold out 72
hours prior to kickoff. Arizona's blackout deadline has now
been extended until 2:15 p.m. local time Friday. As of
Thursday afternoon, the Cardinals say they have about 1,000
tickets remaining to be sold. The Cardinals have sold out
all 37 games played at University of Phoenix Stadium, which
opened in 2006. However, this is the third time this season
that Arizona has needed a 24-hour blackout deadline extension
from the league.

Harvin misses practice for Vikings

Minnesota Vikings rookie receiver and return man Percy
Harvin did not practice Thursday because of illness. Coach
Brad Childress did not specify the illness, but Harvin has
had trouble with migraine headaches this season. Childress
says he is hopeful that Harvin will return to practice Friday,
two days before the game at Green Bay. Receiver Bernard
Berrian and linebacker E.J. Henderson missed practice for
the second straight day. Berrian has an injured hamstring
and Henderson is dealing with a knee injury. Cornerback
Antoine Winfield continued to miss practice while he
recovers from a foot injury.

Report: Fisher switching to Young at QB

The owner of the Tennessee Titans wants to see more of
Vince Young. He's reportedly getting just that with the
winless Titans making a change at quarterback from veteran
Kerry Collins back to the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Coach Jeff Fisher plans to announce the change after practice
Thursday. But The Tennessean newspaper, citing anonymous sources,
said on its Web site Thursday morning that Young will start
Sunday against the Jaguars (3-3).Fisher was not available an
hour before practice, and the team had no immediate comment.
But Young split the work evenly with Collins at practice
Wednesday. The Titans (0-6) also added John David Booty to
the practice squad to do the work previously handled solely
by Young.

Injured back puts Ringer in hospital for night

Tennessee running back Javon Ringer watched practice Thursday
after a night spent in a hospital with an injured back, and
coach Jeff Fisher says they are optimistic the rookie won't
miss a lot of time. Ringer was hurt after catching a pass
Wednesday and was in such pain he had to be carted off the
field. An All-American at Michigan State, Ringer was the
Titans' fifth-round pick at No. 173 overall. Fisher would
not elaborate on the injury to Ringer's back, but said he
will be OK after team officials initially feared the worst.
Cornerback Cortland Finnegan was limited in his first practice
since Oct. 8. Receiver Nate Washington sat out with an injured
quad, and returner Mark Jones did not practice with an injured
hamstring.

Arizona's Rolle misses practice with sore foot

Arizona Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle has missed practice for
the second day in a row with a sore right foot. Rolle, whose
interception clinched Sunday night's 24-17 victory over the
New York Giants, is uncertain for Sunday's home game against
Carolina. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin continues to be bothered
by a sore ankle and was limited in practice on Thursday, as
was wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee). Cornerback Dominique
Rodgers-Cromartie, who sprained an ankle against the Giants,
has been a full participant in practice all week. Tight end
Stephen Spach missed the Giants game with an ankle injury,
but was able to practice on a limited basis Thursday after
sitting out Wednesday's workout.
