Fergie may become Dolphins partner

Fergie may soon be on the Miami Dolphins' bandwagon as a
limited partner. NFL owners meeting in Boston this week
approved the Black Eyed Peas singer as a part owner, but
the team has yet to complete an agreement with her, Dolphins
chief executive officer Mike Dee said in an e-mail Tuesday.
Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas already have a marketing
partnership with the Dolphins. She wears a pink Dolphins
jersey in a campaign this month for breast cancer awareness.
Team owner Stephen Ross has brought six other celebrities into
the fold this year. The first partnership was with singer
Jimmy Buffett. Musicians Gloria and Emilio Estefan and Marc
Anthony and tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams subsequently
bought small shares of the team. All attended the Dolphins'
home opener last month, and Anthony sang the national anthem
Monday night, when the Dolphins won their second game in a
row by beating the New York Jets 31-27. Fergie, whose real
name is Stacy Ann Ferguson, is a Grammy-winning singer and
also an actress. Ross has said his celebrity partnerships
stir excitement and reflect the vibrancy of South Florida,
and he envisions the Dolphins as a glamour team.

Bills sign LB Draft, S Johnson to bolster D

The Bills have signed linebacker Chris Draft and safety Todd
Johnson in a bid to improve their injury-riddled defense.
Johnson's agent, Peter Schaffer, confirmed his client signed
with Buffalo on Tuesday. Draft's signing was confirmed by a
person familiar with the decision who spoke to The Associated
Press on the condition of anonymity because the Bills had not
announced it. The moves come a day after Buffalo announced
linebackers Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Buggs both sustained
season-ending injuries in a 6-3 loss to Cleveland on Sunday.
Johnson was a fourth-round pick by Chicago in 2003 and played
three years with the Bears before joining St. Louis in 2007.
Draft is a 10-year veteran who had 38 tackles for the Rams
last season. Buffalo's defense has been besieged by injuries
since starting middle linebacker Paul Posluszny broke his
forearm in the team's season-opening loss at New England.
Since then they've lost cornerback Leodis McKelvin (broken
leg) for the year, while safeties Bryan Scott (ankle) and
Donte Whitner (thumb) have both missed the past two games.
Whitner indicated he wants to return when the reeling Bills (1-4)
travel to New York to play the Jets (3-2) on Sunday.
"I feel like I'm pretty close," he said. Buffalo has lost
eight straight games within the division since last year,
including losses this season to the Patriots and Miami
Dolphins. On Sunday, the defense allowed just 193 yards, but
the offense was anemic for the third straight game. The Bills
have produced just one offensive touchdown during their
three-game losing streak.

Bucs sign receiver Yamon Figurs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed receiver Yamon Figurs
and released linebacker Matt McCoy. The Bucs also added
offensive lineman Marc Dile to the practice squad on Tuesday.
Receiver Pat Carter and defensive tackle Rashaad Duncan were
released from the practice squad. Figurs was waived by the
Detroit Lions on Sept. 10. He entered the NFL as a third-round
draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2007 and has three
receptions for 86 yards and one touchdown in 29 career games.
As a rookie, Figurs became the first Ravens player to return a
punt and kickoff for touchdowns in the same season.

Ravens sign former Super Bowl hero David Tyree

The Baltimore Ravens have signed former Super Bowl hero
David Tyree, who played in 73 games with the New York Giants
before being cut last month. Tyree is expected to contribute
to special teams, and could see time at wide receiver. Tyree
made one of the most memorable catches in Super Bowl history
in 2008 against the New England Patriots, pulling down a
32-yard pass on a third-and-five by trapping the ball against
his helmet. The reception kept alive a drive that resulted in
the game-winning touchdown. Tyree missed last season with a
hamstring injury, and this summer missed two preseason games
because of a series of injuries. After adding Tyree to the
active roster Tuesday, the Ravens placed tight end Tony Curtis
on waivers.

Eagles hand out animal welfare grants

Months after facing criticism for signing convicted dogfighter
Michael Vick, the Philadelphia Eagles are making good on a
pledge to support animal welfare groups. The team on Monday
unveiled a program called TAWK, which stands for Treating
Animals With Kindness. The initiative aims to reduce animal
abuse, encourage spaying and neutering and end dogfighting
through public education and awareness. The Eagles awarded
grants of $50,000 each to Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society,
the Humane Society of Berks County and the Humane Society of the
United States. Team spokeswoman Pamela Browner-Crawley says
Vick is working with children to discourage them from dogfighting.
Vick served 18 months in prison for his involvement in a
dogfighting ring.

Network: LB Junior Seau re-signs with Patriots

Junior Seau is back with the New England Patriots, ready to
play linebacker again at age 40. Tuesday's announcement was
made by Versus, the television network on which Seau has a show.
The Patriots have not announced the signing, although the team
said he had a physical. Seau is a 12-time Pro Bowl player.
He came out of retirement last year to play the final four
games with the Patriots after playing 27 games with them in
2006 and 2007. Versus said the show, "Sports Jobs with
Junior Seau," will continue as scheduled.
