Harper sidelined with broken right arm
Tennessee cornerback Nick Harper broke his right arm early in
the third quarter and was knocked out of the game against
Indianapolis. Harper was hurt on the Colts' opening drive
after a turnover in the second half. He walked immediately
to the locker room from the field, accompanied by a doctor
while Harper held his arm at the wrist and wriggled his
fingers. Coach Jeff Fisher confirmed the injury after the game.
But Harper walked back onto the sideline late in the third
quarter with a white brace from his hand up to his elbow
before putting a sling on to support his arm. He didn't have
his helmet, wore a T-shirt with no jersey and covered his head
with a towel. That left the Titans without both their starting
cornerbacks with rookies in their place. Cortland Finnegan was
scratched before the game because of an injured right hamstring
that kept him out for a second straight week. Fisher also said
tight end Craig Stevens was having tests for a concussion
suffered on the opening kickoff.
Manning passes Tarkenton with 343rd career TD pass
Peyton Manning needed about half of the first quarter Sunday
night to throw his first touchdown pass of the game, giving
him 343 for his career and moving into third on the NFL's
career list all by himself. The three-time MVP tied Fran
Tarkenton with two TD passes last week. Tarkenton sent Manning
a letter this week noting the company. Manning's 343rd TD was
a 3-yard toss to Reggie Wayne with 7:28 left in the first
quarter for a 7-0 lead against Tennessee. Only Brett Favre
(469) and Dan Marino (420) are ahead of Manning. Manning came
into the game needing 36 yards to reach 50,000 yards passing
for his career.

Mangini, Browns address Davis' injury with NFL
Browns coach Eric Mangini has spoken with NFL officials about
concerns over how rookie running back James Davis sustained a
season-ending shoulder injury, and whether it happened during
a post-practice session. "We talked to the league about it.
Addressed it," Mangini said, following a 6-3 win over Buffalo
on Sunday. "We feel very comfortable with being where we're at."
Mangini was responding to a question about an ESPN report citing
two unnamed witnesses claiming Davis was not wearing pads after
practice when he was struck by an unnamed Browns linebacker,
who was wearing pads. Davis was hurt in the Browns' season
opener against Minnesota and eventually placed on injured
reserve on Oct. 3. Last month, the NFL Players Association
confirmed it filed a formal grievance over Mangini fining a
player $1,701 for not paying a hotel for a $3 bottle of water.
At the time, Mangini said: "Grievances are common. People
grieve with every single team. It's not unique at all. I
guess what would be more surprising is if 90 percent of
fines aren't grieved. That's not just with us. That's any team."

Sanders travels with Colts, but sits vs. Titans
Bob Sanders, who traveled with the Indianapolis Colts to
Tennessee, was deactivated for Sunday night's game against
the Titans. The Titans sat cornerback Cortland Finnegan for a
second game with left defensive end Jevon Kearse a healthy
scratch for the first time this season. Sanders had been listed
as doubtful this week. He has not played in a game all season.
Now he won't have a chance to play for two more weeks with
the Colts having their bye week next. Indianapolis also
deactivated cornerbacks Kelvin Hayden and Marlin Jackson
(surgically repaired left knee). Jacob Lacey was starting
for Hayden. The Colts sat left tackle Charlie Johnson (knee)
with Tony Ugoh making his first start this season. Finnegan
said in the middle of the week he was going to play against
the Colts. But he ran on the field early and huddled with
coach Jeff Fisher and a trainer shortly before the decision
on inactives was due. Rookie Jason McCourty will start in
his spot. Kearse had one sack all season. William Hayes was
set for his first NFL start.
