Even hair products go bad, just like our food! Have you ever noticed that sometimes a hair product may smell, or have an odd color or consistency? Even high quality products have a shelf life. Preservative-free, all natural products will not stay as fresh as commercial products. All natural preservatives can only protect shampoos and conditioners for 120 days. There are many things that can help prolongue the life of your hair products, as well as many warning signs they are going bad!

Products should never stand in direct sunlight for prologue period of time.

If you can, buy products with a pump instead of a jar. When you buy a jar, your fingers introduce bacteria to the jar and contaminate it. Also, it give a controlled amount with the pump, making the product last longer.

When purchasing, it is recommended that you open and smell products before purchasing and regularly check the smell and consistency of the products after purchase.

If the product has separated, throw it away.

If a product is over 2 years old it should be tossed!

Try not to travel with too many products. Heat and humidity can change the consistency. If you have to travel, use travel containers to transport anything you cannot buy.

Here is an extra tip too! If your product only comes in a jar, sterilizer other small containers and put the cream into them. It will minimize the waste and spread of bacteria. Only a little will be effected at a time!
