Saturday, February 16, 2013Hello Everyone...
Well, did anyone else think the Grammys were pretty boring last weekend? The biggest deal was the return of Justin Timberlake...who uh, just performed for the heck of it. He should have waited til his album was nominated in my opinion, but hey, they gotta sell records as soon as possible.
All the commercialism can really get to me sometimes - even my pal Dave Grohl had a cringe-ingly obvious plug for his directorial debut documentary Sound City. Makes me appreciate bands that don't play the 'game' all the more. I think of bands like the Arctic Monkeys who just put out good records year after year, and just seem to like playing music.
This is one of their earliest hits, and one of my favorites, A Certain Romance. They got a certain skeptical viewpoint that I can relate to, like when lead singer Alex Turner goes 'There's only music, so that there's new ringtones.' Listen for the sweet swinging bassline and energetic morph into a near-dissonant solo.
