Harold Ramis -- 'Ghostbusters' writer, co-star -- dead at 69

Comic actor, director and writer Harold Ramis died Monday in Chicago after a long battle with autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, TMZ reported. He was 69. Ramis wrote the screenplay for the 1978 comedy "Animal House" and then went on to write hit comedies starring Bill Murray including "Meatballs" (1979), "Caddyshack" (1980), "Stripes" (1981), "Ghostbusters" (1984), "Groundhog Day" (1993) and "Analyze This" (1999). He also acted in and served as producer on "Meatballs," "Stripes" and "Ghostbusters." He was a humor editor for Playboy magazine before joining Chicago's groundbreaking Second City comedy improv company in 1969. Ramis was head writer for "SCTV," produced in Canada, which starred Martin Short, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty and Rick Moranis. "Harold Ramis was a brilliant, shining example for every comedy writer hoping to achieve excellence the field. He will be sorely missed," "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane tweeted Monday.

'Dancing with the Stars' gets a new co-host -- Erin Andrews

Erin Andrews will replace Brooke Burke-Charvet as co-host of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" in Los Angeles, UsMagazine.com reported Monday. Fox Sports reporter Andrews -- who competed on the show in Season 10 -- will appear alongside longtime "DWTS" co-host Tom Bergeron in Season 18. "The paperwork is being finalized but it is happening," a series source told UsMagazine.com. Burke-Charvet announced during the weekend she had been fired from the show after eight seasons as a co-host. Producers later confirmed the news, but didn't offer a reason for her dismissal.

Salma Hayek's brother Sami hurt in LA car crash

Actress Salma Hayek's brother suffered several broken ribs and facial lacerations in a Los Angeles car crash that left one person dead, police said. Sami Hayek, 40, lost control of his car Sunday afternoon, crossed into coming traffic and collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported. A 43-year-old, unidentified male passenger in the front seat of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the truck broke his foot. Police are investigating the cause of the collision, KTLA said.

Alec Baldwin says he is leaving public life, New York City

Actor and former TV personality Alec Baldwin says in an essay in New York magazine he is leaving public life and his longtime home of New York City. "I've lived this for 30 years, I'm done with it," Baldwin writes in his 5,000-word article, announcing his plans to move to Los Angeles. "I'm aware that it's ironic that I'm making this case in the media, but this is the last time I'm going to talk about my personal life in an American publication ever again," he said, adding 2013 "was actually a great year, because my wife and I had a baby. But, yeah, everything else was pretty awful." The Emmy Award-winning actor was fired from his MSNBC talk show last year, reportedly as the result of behavior issues in the studio, including his attitude toward co-workers, as well as for a high-profile incident in which he hurled a gay slur at a photographer he said was harassing him on a Manhattan street. "I haven't changed, but public life has," he said in his essay. "Now I loathe and despise the media in a way I did not think possible," he said. "Paparazzi today are part of a network that includes the Huffington Post and, much to my dismay, even NBC News, in their reliance on tabloid reporting."
