Bills' Wood still recuperating in Jacksonville

Bills rookie guard Eric Wood continues to recuperate in a
Jacksonville hospital three days after breaking two bones
in his left leg. A person familiar with the injury tells
The Associated Press that Wood isn't expected to return
to Buffalo until Thursday. The person spoke on the condition
of anonymity because the team has not updated the player's
status since Monday. Wood had surgery to repair the compound
fracture hours after he was hurt in an 18-15 loss to the
Jaguars on Sunday. The injury was so gruesome that CBS
elected against showing more than one replay.

NFL's Jon Runyan to run for Congress in NJ

One day after signing with the San Diego Chargers, Jon Runyan
says he'll retire at the end of the season and run for Congress
in New Jersey. The 35-year-old offensive lineman said Wednesday
that he told Republican officials in Burlington County of his
plans to challenge Democratic Rep. John Adler in New Jersey's
3rd District. "I look forward to a successful end to my
career on the field," Runyan said in a statement, "and a
spirited campaign against Congressman Adler in 2010." Runyan has
not given interviews about his political ambitions or said much
about his stance on issues. A previous statement mentioned the
country was being taken in the wrong direction by career
politicians "incapable of solving the problems we face."
The seat was held for more than two decades by Republican
Jim Saxton, who retired last year. Adler, who replaced him,
is seen as vulnerable. He was a popular state senator, but
is a Democratic first-term representative in a district that
traditionally supports Republicans. Adler voted against a
health care overhaul bill this month, rousing opposition from
the left. Adler's chief of staff, Jill Greco, said the
Congressman is "not thinking about partisan politics or
next year's election." Runyan, who has played 13 seasons in
the NFL for Houston, Tennessee and Philadelphia, was one of
the more popular Eagles during his time with the team.
Three counties make up the 3rd District, which stretches
from the Philadelphia suburbs to the shore.

Texans say account is not Cushing

The Houston Texans say someone has been posing as rookie
linebacker Brian Cushing on Twitter and tweeting under his
name. They say the user BrianCushing56 is not Cushing or anyone
from the Texans organization. The Texans issued a statement
concerning the impostor after a tweet criticizing the
officiating in Monday night's 20-17 loss to Tennessee
appeared Tuesday afternoon. The tweet has since been deleted,
but the profile remains active. Cushing, a first-round draft
pick, leads the Texans and all rookies with 88 tackles.

Giants RB Jacobs fine, Bradshaw has sprained ankle

The New York Giants' backfield is banged up. Brandon Jacobs
said his injured right leg feels "really good" and he should
play against Denver on Thursday, but backup Ahmad Bradshaw has
a sprained left ankle that could sideline him. Bradshaw is
wearing a protective boot on his left foot after previously
wearing one on his right foot because of a cracked bone. He
didn't practice for the second straight day Tuesday. When
asked if Bradshaw would fly with the team for its Thanksgiving
game against the Broncos, coach Tom Coughlin said, "We'll see.
We'll see how it is." The latest injury to Bradshaw, second
on the team with 549 yards rushing, came as a surprise because
he finished the Giants' 34-31 overtime win over Atlanta on Sunday.
Coughlin said Bradshaw was injured during the game, and the team
thought it was only a minor sprain. "But evidently, it is more
severe than that," Coughlin said, "so he's in a boot."
Danny Ware would see extended time if Bradshaw can't play.
Jacobs missed the fourth quarter and overtime Sunday after
he was tackled by Thomas DeCoud and Stephen Nicholas on a
5-yard run late in the third quarter. "I took a little hit
near the leg, but it wasn't anything bad," Jacobs said. "It
could've been worse." Jacobs was helped off the field and
didn't come back in the game. He participated in full practice
Monday and wasn't on the injury report. Jacobs was on the field
again Tuesday and walked without being visibly hindered.
"I feel good," he said. "I feel really good. I don't really
have anything bothering me. It's all mental. You've got to
get in and be ready to go." Jacobs said could've returned
Sunday, but Bradshaw and Ware allowed him to spend the rest
of the game on the sideline. "Yes, I could've went back in
the game," he said, "but we've got two solid backs in the
game who were doing a really good job of pass protecting
and running the ball well, so there was really no need."
Jacobs leads the Giants with 656 yards rushing and has run
for three touchdowns. He finished with 39 yards and a score
on 12 carries against the Falcons.
