'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' DVD

This live-action comedy is based on Jeff Kinney's series of
humorous children's books. Twelve-year-old Greg Heffley
(Zachary Gordon) keeps a journal of what happens to him
during his first year of middle school. Greg begins the year
hoping to be popular, but he's worried that his friendship
with dorky, chubby Rowley Jefferson (Robert Capon) won't be
an asset socially. Greg mainly records an episodic series of
disappointments involving things like the wrestling team,
Safety Patrol, the school play, etc. There's also the
dreaded Cheese Touch, deriving from a moldy piece of cheese
in the schoolyard.

'The Ghost Writer' DVD

Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan star in this thriller that
was co-written and directed by Roman Polanski. The film is
based on Robert Harris' novel The Ghost. The protagonist is
a ghostwriter (McGregor) hired to do a rewrite of the mem-
oirs of Adam Lang (Brosnan), a former British prime minister.
Lang, holed up in Massachusetts, is accused of crimes against
humanity, and the ghostwriter's predecessor mysteriously
drowned. With Lang are his wife (Olivia Williams) and an
aide (Kim Cattrall) who may be his lover. Supporting actors
include Tom Wilkinson and Eli Wallach.

'Kick-Ass' DVD

Adapted from a Mark Millar comic-book series, this is a vio-
lent, but sometimes funny adventure movie. Dave Lizewski
(Aaron Johnson) is a teenager who makes a costume out of a
wet suit and becomes a masked crime-fighter known as Kick-
Ass. A video of Kick-Ass at work goes viral on the Internet,
and he becomes something of a sensation. Also, a father-
daughter team (Nicolas Cage and 11-year-old Chloë Grace
Moretz) become the crime-fighting team of Big Daddy and Hit-
Girl, and she is incredibly foulmouthed. Christopher Mintz-
Plasse (McLovin) plays the role of Red Mist.
