Hey Music Fans...

First of all, wanted to say that I'm new here: my name is Khalil, and I'm taking over for Tim. I'm Anisa's nephew, and she was nice enough to let me pick out a few newsletters to write. I just started working here at GopherCentral, and have been alleviating the workload for some of our busiest writers.

A little about me: I'm more into rock, classic blues-rock, and indie, though the occasional contemporary mainstream tunes sometimes slip in (often as guilty pleasures). My favorite bands are Nirvana, The White Stripes, The Arctic Monkeys, and anything Dangermouse is involved with. I have a pretty wide selection of favorite bands and genres.

Having said that:

I promise as long as I'm editor, that there will be no Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, or Kesha songs. (I refuse to use a dollar sign to spell a name). There will be no general "radio-friendly unit shifters" appearing in this newsletter. You deserve better than the generic stuff that always pops up on MTV when they are in that rare mood of playing music.

I think this will be a good experience - for all of us!

To celebrate my first issue, I looked up one of my favorite old clips the internet has to offer: SNL's famous cowbell skit. Though it's a comedy clip, it features Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper." Enjoy it!

SNL: More Cowbell
When Christopher Walken portrayed famed producer Bruce Dickenson in this spoof of VH1's behind the music on Saturday Night Live along with Will Ferrell, he had people everywhere screaming, I need more cowbell!

Last Week's Video:

Cab Calloways Hi De Ho
Cab Calloway plays himself in the all African-American race movie 'Hi De Ho' from 1947. In this early scene from the film Cab and his band perform 'We The Cats Shall Hep Ya' while auditioning for a nightclub act.
