'Doctor Who' anniversary draws more than 10 million viewers

The 50th anniversary special episode of "Doctor Who" drew more than 10 million viewers in Britain, overnight viewing figures indicate. At its peak, the 75-minute episode, "The Day of the Doctor," drew 10.61 million viewers Sunday, with an overall average of 10.2 million viewers, the BBC reported Sunday. The episode was aired concurrently in 94 countries, setting the Guinness World Record for "the world's largest ever simulcast of a TV drama." "The Day of the Doctor" featured three Doctors: Matt Smith, the current Doctor; David Tennant, who portrayed the 10th doctor from 2005 to 2010; and John Hurt, who was recently introduced as the Doctor between Paul McGann's eighth Doctor and Chris Eccleston's ninth Doctor. The three are brought together in the episode to determine the fate of Gallifrey, the planet from which the Doctor and all other Time Lords hail. Billie Piper, who played the ninth and 10th Doctors' companion -- or sidekick -- Rose Tyler regularly from 2005-06, returned for the anniversary special, along with Jenna-Louise Coleman, who plays Clara Oswald, the Doctor's current companion.

Mick Jagger to become a great-grandfather

British rocker Mick Jagger is set to become a great-grandfather for the first time next year, his daughter Jade Jagger said. The 70-year-old Rolling Stones frontman and his family will welcome the new addition when Jade Jagger's daughter, Assisi Jackson, 21, gives birth, The Mirror reported Sunday. Jade Jagger told the Sunday Times she thinks her father is unfazed by the new title. "I think making Mick a grandfather obviously had a big impact, whereas, now making him a great grandfather is no longer particularly fascinating," she said. This will be the first child for Jackson, who is dating a chef identified only as Alex, The Mirror said. Mick Jagger has seven children aged between 14 and 42 with four different women. His eldest daughter, Karis, was born in 1970 after a fling with Marsha Hunt. Jade Jagger is his only child with Bianca Jagger. He has four children -- Elizabeth, James, Georgia May and Gabriel -- with Jerry Hall, and son Lucas with Luciana Gimenez. The rocker has four grandchildren, including Assisi and Amba Jackson, and Karis' two children.

Country musician Wayne Mills shot and killed at Nashville bar

A Nashville bar owner said he was acting in self-defense in the fatal shooting of country singer Wayne Mills after an altercation in the bar. Mills, 44, died Saturday after he was shot by Pit and Barrel bar owner Chris Ferrell, 44, police said. Ferrell told police he and Mills had argued about smoking inside the bar. "We're investigating Chris Ferrell's claims of self-defense," said Kris Mumford, a police spokeswoman. Ferrell was previously arrested twice for driving on a suspended licence and Mills had prior convictions for driving under the influence and reckless endangerment, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported Monday. Mills was the singer for the Wayne Mills Band, which often played the college circuit in the area. Country music stars Jamey Johnson, Blake Shelton and Taylor Hicks were the opening acts for the Wayne Mills Band early in their careers, the newspaper said. "Extremely sad to hear about the death of my old friend Wayne Mills," Shelton said in a message on Twitter Sunday.
