Again with the humidity.
The humidity is really getting to me. The air conditioner
broke last week and I'm still waiting for the repair guy
to get it fixed so I have had to brave the heat and
humidity every day and night until...
I've noticed that my water intake has increased quite a
bit, but my urinary output is less frequent.
In conditions such as this make sure that you are drinking
plenty of water. I know I've said this before, but it's
important to remember. You don't often feel dehydrated
until it's too late. Make sure you keep cool, drink fluids
frequently and keep a close eye on your blood sugar.
Just a reminder. You can enjoy the summer weather, but you
have to make sure that you are healthy and safe.

FDA Warns Abbott Diabetes Care About Manufacturing
Practices of Its Glucose Meters

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sent a
warning letter to Abbott Diabetes Care regarding its
manufacture of FreeStyle glucose meters. The meters
include the FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitor-
ing System, which is currently unavailable in the United
States because of a 'supply interruption,' according to
the company.
The FDA said that Abbott Diabetes Care, a unit of Abbott,
had violated certain quality-control requirements, such as
its follow-up to the discovery of empty blister packs and
scratches on glucose-meter test strips. The FDA letter
also said that Abbot Diabetes Care did not have enough
qualified personnel for the manufacturing processes to
meet agency standards.
The warning letter stemmed from an FDA inspection earlier
this year of the company's facilities in Alameda, Calif.
Abbott Diabetes Care issued a press release, saying that
it has taken, and will continue to take, the necessary
actions to address the FDA letter's concerns.

Hot Mustard Dipping Sauce
(makes about 3 cups)
3/4 cup (96 g) powdered Chinese mustard
1 cup (240 ml) water
1/2 cup (120 ml) + 1 tablespoon (15 ml) white wine vinegar
1/2 cup (120 ml) + 1 tablespoons (15 ml) reduced-sodium
soy sauce
6 cloves garlic, minced
1. In a small bowl, combine all ingredients, mixing well
to form a smooth sauce. Let sit for at least 1 hour before
serving at room temperature.
2. Transfer to a serving dish and offer a small spoon for
serving the sauce. Serve alongside the steamed dumplings.
Per 1-tablespoon serving: 8 calories (less than 1% calories
from fat), 1 g protein, trace total fat (0 saturated fat),
1 g carbohydrates, 0 dietary fiber, 0 cholesterol, 114 mg
sodium
