Saturday, April 6, 2013Hello Everyone...
Bowie's Back! That's right, after a bit of a hiatus, David Bowie finally released his 24th studio album, The Next Day. I listened to the whole thing and am thoroughly impressed. It's got a great combination of classic-sounding elements with a forward-thinking hard edge. Electric distorted guitars compliment synth and smooth power ballads around every corner.
The second single, The Stars Are Out Tonight, was recently released. I'm not too surprised, but it is interesting to note the powerful vocal energy of the 66 year old legend. The video features Bowie and fake wife played by actress Tilda Swinton as a normal couple. A young, female David bowie and his/her girlfriend/boyfriend torment the two until the end. The video and song deal with fame, androgyny, mortality, and happiness. It's artsy, sexual, and a little weird. In a word: vintage Bowie. (The video like I said is a little sexual, so best not to let the youngins watch this one!)
