THE DAILY GROANER - Monday, June 27th 2011Good Morning Groanies,I was in the grocery store the other day, and I call it a grocery store even though it isn't technically a grocery store, but it had some items that would be considered groceries, so there you go.
So, I'm at the checkout and the cashier, a teenage guy, tells me that this woman was looking at me from a few lanes away. I thought it might have been someone that I work with that recognized the back of my head, which is very noteworthy, so I turned around. When I turned to see this mysterious person eye-balling me she noticed that I was aware that she was looking at me and then when she saw who I was her face turned from uncertainty to panic, but not the type of panic that goes along with embarrassment, it was more like...disgust.
My mind began to race with the possibilities for this fellow shopper's expression. Was I hideous looking? Was she upset that I wasn't who she thought I was? Was the front of my head not as appealing as the back of my head? Was she actually looking at me at all? Did I have a booger hanging out of my nose? There were several others, but I'll keep it brief.
Then my attention was drawn back to my cashier. He was standing there wagging his tongue, with his eyes closed and miming out the actions of making out with an invisible figure. So, it wasn't me after all. Then he noticed that I noticed his fake make-out session and stopped. We just stared at one another for around fifteen seconds, then he spoke, "You'd be surprised how often that works."
I'll be honest, he got me thinking.
Groaningly yours,
