*-- Boehner slams Obama for being unwilling to 'sell' ground war with IS --*

WASHINGTON (UPI) - Appearing on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Speaker of the House John Boehner had harsh words for Islamic State militants and blunt criticism of President Barack Obama's international strategy.

"We have no choice," Boehner said when asked about militarized efforts to combat IS.

"These are barbarians. They intend to kill us ... and if we don't destroy them first, we're going to pay the price, At some point somebody's boots have to be on the ground. Those boots would likely have to be Americans."

Never one to miss an opportunity to slight his country's commander-in-chief, Boehner criticized Obama for failing to convince Americans of what the house speaker sees as the necessity of an actual ground war versus targeted airstrikes and rebel support.

"The president typically in a situation like this would call for an authorization vote and go sell that to the American people and send a resolution to the Hill. The president has not done that."
