Good morning crew,
As it turned out, I could not think of a reasonable excuse
not to drive out to the back woods and go country line
dancing on Saturday night.
And it was out in the back woods, somewhere in unincorporated
Indiana where militant groups of State's Righters still live
in community compounds and threaten to shoot revenuers.
It was over an hour's drive and when we pulled in I was a
little surprised to find an actual cattle house. I mean,
the girlfriend did tell me that the place is a barn, but I
expected some commercial location that was designed to look
like a barn, you know, like a Bob Evan's Breakfast House.
Nope. We walked in to find a huge warehouse type facility
with a dirt and gravel floor and permeated with a vague
aroma of livestock. As it turns out, the place is still
occasionally used for cattle auctions and judging, which
would explain the elevated viewing gallery which hung over
the long wall.
On the opposite side was a stage and in front of that a dance
floor constructed of shipping pallets nailed over with plywood.
By the time we walked in a boot-stompin' band was already in
full swing, complete with a steel guitar and I believe a
blowin' jug.
In all fairness, they were a good band. They played a lot of
classic country music which shares a common ancestor with
blues. So I can't say I was complete opposed to the music.
And after a few beers I even allowed myself to be guilt-
tripped onto the dance floor for a couple turns. But I forgot
the major rule of boot-scootin'. It's heel, toe, THEN you
dosey doe! That resulted in some discomfort not to mention
embarrassment. Consequently, my back is still kind of hurting
even today.
At least I have now fulfilled my boot scootin' obligation.
Let it never be said that I'm unwilling to sacrifice my
dignity for a social obligation.

As the owner of an old clunker, I was used to dealing with
a variety of car breakdowns. One day at the supermarket,
