Wednesday, September 24, 2014Good morning crew,
So this is our second week in the new house and wouldn't you know it...we are still moving in. Hey, it is a slow and pain-staking process involving lots of planning, beer-drinking and procrastination.
For example; last weekend the wife and I decided to finally move the futon frame from the garage into the basement where it will serve to turn the futon into a sofa.
While the frame is kind of awkward it is light, which makes it easy to pick up and maneuver. However, moving it into the basement required negotiating a couple of rather tight turns and narrow doorways. Standing there, staring at the thing in the garage I had two choices; go get the tool kit and spend five minutes removing the eight bolts that would have broken it down into 4 manageable pieces, or...option 2.
I decided to try to save the five minutes and go with option 2; employing the wife to try and force the thing through the doorways and down the stairs as is.
15 minutes later the frame was wedged solidly halfway through the basement door while the wife was at the bottom of the stairs struggling to hold the thing up and crying from me yelling at her to, "Twist it to the right! No, the other right!"
I ended up having to take the thing apart while it was wedged in the basement stairs, frantically unscrewing the bolts as the wife's failing strength slowly let the frame drop, gouging a jagged furrow in the basement door's paint.
40 minutes later we finally got the futon installed where we want it and I have a 2-hour paint job to keep me occupied next weekend.
Like I said; patience and planning.
Laugh it up,
Joe

***One of my first assignments as a trainee in an auto-body shop was a car needing a new fender and some door repairs.
I spent hours doing a perfect job, but when the owner came to pick it up, he wasn't pleased.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
Pointing to the side of the car, he complained about the paint not matching, uneven gaps between panels, and a host of other problems. He demanded an explanation.
"The repairs were to the other side," I noted.

She did, and soon her fingernails were growing normally. Her friend asked her if yoga had totally cured her nervousness.
"No," she replied, "but now I can reach my toe-nails so I bite them instead."
