Monday, January 27, 2014Good morning crew,
It has finally reached 'joint-aching' weather here in the Chicago area. For me, anyway. Some peoples' joints start to hurt at around 30 degrees. For me, apparently, it is minus 5 and below.
Not that I am going to have to deal with it much longer. Tomorrow morning I leave for Florida...provided the plane can get off the ground. I have been hearing about massive delays and cancellations.
I guess it could be worse. Sure, it will still be minus 5 degrees with a ten-to-20 mile-per-hour wind blowing, but at least it won't be snowing.
I touch down in Orlando. Then a brief 2-and-a-half hour shuttle bus ride, followed by a quick hop in a cab and in 10 hours I will be enjoying the rain and 65-degre weather in Daytona Beach.
Compared to this I will probably feel like taking a dip in the ocean.
Laugh it up,
Joe

***An acquaintance of mine whose daughter was about to be married decided to give her a diamond ring that had been in the family for several generations. The stone had never been appraised, so the father asked a gemologist friend if she would take a look at it. She agreed, but said that instead of a fee she'd accept lunch at one of Houston's finer restaurants.
A few days later, as he and the gem expert sat sipping a glass of Chablis, he showed her the ring. She took out her jeweler's loupe, examined the diamond carefully and handed it back.
"Wow," said a diner who had been watching from the next table. "These Texas women are tough!"
*-------------- Guaranteed to Roll Your Eyes --------------*I was recovering from surgery when a charity representative phoned asking me to take part in a door-to-door fund-raising effort. "Sorry," I replied, "but I've been incapacitated."
Undaunted, the caller kept trying to convince me to change my mind and volunteer.
I interrupted and said, "I'm incapacitated. Do you know what that means?"
She hesitated. "It means your head was cut off?"
