According to the World Fact Book 2008, the world's oil reserves will last until 2052 and gas reserves will last until 2065. Meanwhile, The top seven oil consumers combined use more than half of the world's total. The United States alone uses more than a quarter.

The World Coal Institute says that, at current production levels, proven coal reserves are estimated to last 147 years. The United States produces half of its electricity from coal.
