****-- 'Gotham' series headed to Fox --*LOS ANGELES - Fox is developing "Gotham," a drama about U.S. comic-book cop James Gordon and the villains he tries to put behind bars, EW.com said. The series will also focus on the Wayne family before Bruce became hero Batman. Bruno Heller will executive produce the hourlong origins story, which has already received a series commitment from Fox, the report said. No casting or anticipated premiere date have been announced yet. The project follows a recent trend of small-screen comic-book adaptations such as "Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "The Walking Dead."
*-- 'Army Wives' canceled after seven seasons --*LOS ANGELES - U.S. cable network Lifetime has confirmed it canceled its drama series "Army Wives" after seven seasons. Variety said the show, the network's longest-running scripted drama, was canceled due to declining ratings. "There is no denying how special 'Army Wives' has been to both Lifetime and the television landscape," Rob Sharenow, Lifetime's executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement. "By taking on a very relevant and timely issue, it has brilliantly captured the challenges our military families endure and the bravery they and their loved ones display while serving our country." The network plans to air a 2-hour retrospective on the series early next year, Variety said. Starring Kim Delaney, Catherine Bell and Ashanti, the show wrapped its seventh and final season during the summer.
* Britney Spears confirms duet with Miley Cyrus *LOS ANGELES - U.S. pop star Britney Spears describes Miley Cyrus as a "cool girl" and says she was happy to record a duet with her for Cyrus' upcoming album, "Bangerz." "My manager [Larry Rudolph] is her manager and she's been working on her album lately and I've been working on an album, so we hit the studio together a lot, and she's a cool girl," Spears told E! News. Spears, 31, and Cyrus, 20, are both former child stars who have experienced bumpy transitions in creating adult images for themselves. After a few years of erratic behavior in her early 20s, Spears has since been focusing on her music career and two young sons. Cyrus is the former star of the family TV series "Hannah Montana." She was criticized last month for appearing scantily clad, grinding against 36-year-old singer Robin Thicke and making vulgar gestures with a foam finger throughout her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards show. She also recently ended her engagement to actor Liam Hemsworth, her boyfriend of more than three years.
*-- Richard Gere and Carey Lowell to divorce after 11 years of marriage --*NEW YORK - Hollywood couple Richard Gere and Carey Lowell have separated after 11 years of marriage and are planning to divorce, the New York Post reported Wednesday. Gere, 64, and Lowell, 52, were a couple for seven years before they wed, but they haven't been photographed together since a screening of Gere's movie "Arbitrage" last year, the newspaper said. A source told the Post the couple -- who have a son -- have "been spending time apart for quite some time." "They have a place in Bedford [New York], and he likes it because it's quiet and he likes the solitude," a second insider told the newspaper. "She likes being in North Haven in the limelight. They live next door to Jimmy Buffett and his family, and they're good friends."
