Here's the Scoop....

Ellen DeGeneres hit a high note with critics and fans for her
American Idol debut Tuesday.

The New York Times noted she was "witty both in her embraces
and her take-downs." The Los Angeles Times lauded her "calm
demeanor and deadpan wit."

Ellen fit right in. Not only did the show wisely not dwell on
her too much, leaving the emphasis on the terrifying 'sudden
death' round of Hollywood week, but she wasn't too
funny, either.

Do you think Ellen made a good Idol judge?

Now let's get to the rest of the nooz...

Deadliest Catch Captain Dies at 53...

Deadliest Catch's Captain Phil Harris died in Alaska Tuesday
night. He was 53.

Phil, who starred on the Discovery Channel reality show for
five seasons, suffered a massive stroke last month.

"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad,
Captain Phil Harris," said his sons, Josh and Jake, in a
statement. "Dad has always been a fighter and continued to
be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who
never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that
strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

The network released a statement, "Discovery mourns the loss
of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was
more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a
devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will
miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and
enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this
loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil's every
move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil's sons Josh
and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew.

Phil seemed to be on the mend after undergoing surgery in
January. On Saturday, Phil posted on his Web site that he
was "talking to friends and family today; showing his
greatest progress" since suffering from the stroke.

After four unsuccessful rounds of in vitro fertilization, Céline
Dion is not giving up hope for a second child.

"I'm going to try until it works," says Celine, who has been
giving herself daily hormone shots, and enduring the roller-
coaster ride of emotions they bring, after the heartbreaking
loss of a pregnancy in August and three other failed IVF
attempts last fall.

"Five's my lucky number," she adds, "so this is the time it's
got to work!"

While her husband/manager Rene Angélil, 68, says they "go crazy" =

waiting for the results after each try, Celine, whose new concert
film and family documentary Céline: Through the Eyes of the World,
will be released Feb. 17, stays positive, focusing her energies
on son Rene-Charles, 9, who is thriving as a second-grader at his

Naomi Judd Defends Taylor Swift...

Don't let Naomi Judd catch you saying anything bad about Taylor
Swift. The veteran country singer has jumped to Swift's defense
after she was heavily criticized for her performance at the
Grammy Awards last month.

In a letter to the editor of The Tennessean, Naomi, calls Taylor
a "dazzling performer" and lauds her for single-handedly
introducing "country music to a much-welcomed younger demographic."=

She attributes Taylor's less-than-perfect Grammy duet with Stevie
Nicks to having an off night. "Having sung many times at the
Grammys, I can tell you that the stress and anxiety of performing
in front of the world's top artists in every genre of music is
tortuous for even the most seasoned singer," Naomi writes.

Naomi also praises Taylor's "smarts, manners and class" as
qualities young people should admire and emulate.

"If there's an award for being the best role model for her
generation," she writes, "I'd like to be the one to give it
to Taylor Swift."

Jillian Michaels Sued Over Diet Supplement...

A California woman is suing Jillian Michaels, claiming the
celebrity trainer is endorsing a diet supplement that contains
false advertising.

of NBC?s ?Biggest Loser.? She claims she bought a product
emblazoned with Michaels? picture and endorsement called ?Calorie =

Control? last month and it has failed to lessen her appetite and
she hasn?t lost any weight.

Christensen is seeking class-action status for her claims, which
include untrue and misleading advertising. She is also suing
Calorie Control?s maker, Utah-based Basic Research.

Louis Gossett Jr. Has Prostate Cancer...

Louis Gossett Jr. has done the right thing regarding his prostate
cancer: He received an early diagnosis and he is acting promptly.

As a result, the Supporting Actor Oscar winner, for 1983's An
Officer and a Gentleman, in addition to his Emmy for 1977's
Roots, expects to receive the greatest prize of all: a full recovery.

Louis, says he is spreading awareness of his condition because
of the lack of emphasis in the African-American community on
fighting the highly treatable (and extremely common) form of
cancer. The best way to fight it is preventive examinations
and early treatment, which can involve surgery and/or radiation.

*-*-* GUESS WHO *-*-*-

This singer/Songwriter has dated some of the most beautiful women
in Hollywood, but the he says he was sexually addicted to
Jessica Simpson...

It's John Mayer...

"That girl, for me, is a drug," John, tells Playboy in an at-times =

jaw-dropping new interview. "And drugs aren't good for you if you
do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me."

Though Jessica and John's on-again, off-again romance ended in
2007, the memory of those steamy romps still haunts John.
"Sexually it was crazy," he says. "That's all I'll say. It was
like napalm, sexual napalm."

Before becoming paired with the pop star, John never would have
considered dating Jessica, he admits. But he now says he became
hopelessly hooked.
