Saturday, April 21, 2012Hello Animal lovers,
Today's clip is an interesting glimpse of nature that I guess I just never thought about - kangaroo boxing. You see it in cartoons plenty...but I've never actually seen it done between two kangaroos. This footage is pretty good, though I don't exactly enjoy the soundtrack (the YouTube mute button fixes that!) It's almost mesmerizing, watching these two kangaroos roughhouse to display their dominance. Nothing seems overly-violent, they just swat and kick at each other. They really could do serious damage to each other, but it's obvious these guys are just having a minor disagreement.
I watched more videos and did a little bit of research, and learned that when threatened with a blow to the head, the kangaroos can arch their back and neck to completely protect themselves, and you can see it in the video. They also really do use their tails to stabilize themselves on the ground and prepare for powerful double-kicks - really cool!
Pleasant Watching,
