Greetings fellow Bizarros:

People do a lot of stupid things when they are drinking.
Urinating on police cars, for example, or calling ex boy-
friends or girlfriends, maybe start a fight with a bouncer.
If you have ever done any of these things don't feel too
bad. One British commodities broker ruined the oil market
after a weekend of boozing!

Steven Perkins, a former employee of PVM Oil Futures, was
banned from working in financial services after it was dis-
covered that he bought more than 7 million barrels of oil
while on a drinking binge.

It all started with a company golf weekend. Perkins had
been drinking heavily throughout the entire event and had
continued drinking right into Monday. It was at that point
that he decided to begin his massive buy...without any
authorization from clients or his employer.

He began his illicit trades by telephoning in eight orders
to PVM's Brent Oil trading desk, saying they were all on
behalf of a trader described as 'Client A'. Nothing
suspicious about that. Although how he managed to speak
coherently after three days of steady drinking is something
of a mystery.

Perkins' unauthorized trading artificially pushed the price
of Brent crude oil futures up dramatically, which eventually
landed PVM, the world's largest independent oil broker, with
a loss of $10 million!

How would you like to explain that one to your boss?

Bizarrely,

Lewis

------------ Flight delayed by falling maggots ------------

ATLANTA - US Airways said a flight preparing for takeoff
in Atlanta returned to the gate due to maggots falling
from an overhead luggage bin. The airline said Monday's
US Airways flight 1537, which was bound for New York with
a stop in Charlotte, was taxiing down the runway when the
maggots were noticed and returned to the gate so the plane
could be cleaned, WAGA-TV, Atlanta, reported Thursday. US
Airways spokesman Todd Lemacher said the maggots were the
fault of a passenger who brought spoiled meat onto the
flight. He said the passenger with the meat was "re-
accommodated on another airline" while the rest of the
passengers returned to the plane and continued on to
Charlotte. Lemacher said the passengers were moved to a
different plane in Charlotte and the aircraft was taken
out of service "and will be fumigated as precautionary
measure."

-------- Farm's cows increase milk with Shakespeare --------

MAIDSTONE, England - Workers at a British farm said cows
exposed to a theater group performing renditions of a
Shakespeare play increased milk production by 4 percent.
Farmers at Pleasant Farm, near Maidstone, England, said
the Changeling Theater Co.'s renditions of "The Merry
Wives of Windsor," a comedy about recurring William
Shakespeare character Falstaff attempting to seduce two
women, caused the cows to increase their milk yield by
4 percent, The Daily Telegraph reported. "Anything that
calms the animals and reduces their stress is good and
Shakespeare ticks all the right boxes," farm worker Liam
Batt said. "Perhaps there is something in the language
of Shakespeare -- we don't know, but it seems to work and
milk production has gone up 4 percent." Rob Forknall,
artistic director for the Changeling Theater Co., said
the "bizarre experiment" was born of wondering whether
Shakespeare would have a relaxing effect on cows similar
to that of classical music. "We were all slightly
surprised when it did," Forknall said. "Since then we've
done several rehearsals with the cows. It saves us having
to book rehearsal space and the farmer's very pleased to
get more milk."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> READER COMMENTS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Dear Lewis, This is for Jerry and his 90% of addicts started
with pot. What this tells me is that these addicts were not
asked the right questions because I will bet 100% of them got
their first taste of drugs from mom and/or the doctor. So
Jerry, WHAT does that tell you? One last thing Jerry, when
was the last time anyone was shot in the street over the
alcohol trade?
[I don't know...did anybody get shot in the movie Smokey and
the Bandit?]

What an interesting and absolutely useless statistic from
Jerry Russo. We do not need to know what percentage of hard
drug users started on Marijuana. The important and valid
statistic is how many people who smoke marijuana went on to
use hard drugs. Now if 90 percent of those went on to other
hard drugs we would have a real problem, but I suspect that
the percentage is fairly insignificant or he would have
quoted it! -Geoff
[Very good observation! It is sort of a backward statistic.]

Lewis, Obviously you've never seen the video for that Tom
Petty Song. Kim Basinger was the corpse. -Ted

Lewis, The anti-marijuana and anti-hemp movement goes pre-
dominantly to William Randolph Hearst, who saw hemp as a
treat to his newspaper business. Hearst controlled most
of the pulp mills that produced newspaper but had no
control in the hemp derived paper industry. Instead of
trying to take it over, which would have cost him a fortune,
he simply got it outlawed. The movie "Reefer Madness" was
wholly funded by Hearst as a scare tactic to help make pot
and hemp illegal.

Hi Lewis, just one more comment on Mary-Jane . Your reader
Jerry Russo states that 90% of hard drug users started on
MJ what he didn't say is that only 3% of people who used
Marijuana went on to hard drugs. You can use figures any
way you want to I guess. -Corey
[I admit, I used a little pot in college and it didn't
effect me (unless you consider the fact that I ended up as
the editor of Bizarre News).]
