Greetings...
Flyboy is home this week with a bad case of Conjunctivitis. He had
to cut his last trip short because it started on the last day of
his three day trip. His eyes were not only red and sore, but very
sensitive to bright light, which Sunshine blazing into the eyballs
would be. He is prone to this, as are many pilots which tells you
how "bad" the air in an airplane can be, and the pilots get fresh
air in the cockpit and not recycled air like the rest of us peasants
sitting in the back get...
He's due to go back to work on Thursday, but if it's like every other
time he gets the eye problem, a cold almost always follows and he's
been sneezing the past few hours, so we'll have to see what happens in
the next 24 hours before he is supposed to go back to work...
You might recall that this past May we had solar panels installed. At
that time, quite a few of you asked me to report back on the amount,
if any savings we have seen since having it installed...
I waited to write about it until the "dog days of Summer" were pretty
much gone and since we are finally averaging temps under 100 degrees,
and I have four full months of electric bills in front of me, I can
happily report that it has been not only a wise decision to do, but
a money saving one...
Last year, during the months of June, July, August and September, our
electric bills were and are now...
Last year... This year...
June - $621.00 $419.00
July - $653.00 $430.00
August -$677.00 $420.00
September - $594.00 $368.00
As you can see, we saved quite a bit right off the bat. Different
factors enter into the savigs including cloudy periods, which although
rare most of the time, do happen and during our Monsoon season, some
of the production was less because of afternoon storms...
These four months are the peak months for usage and we actually expect
to save more during the months where we aren't using the air conditioning
as much, or at all, yet have bright sunshine all day...
So, although the intial system was expensive, the rebates and government
incentives really cut the price of the system and the amount we have
already saved in the first few months will make this not only good for
the environment, but the wallet, and pay for itself rather quickly...
I also think when the time comes for us to move, it will be a great
selling point...
That's the "solar report" based on our experience...
:-)
