April 23, 2010

Greetings...

Lately, it seems like every time Arizona is in the news, illegal
immigration is the reason. We have quite a firestorm brewing right
now in my state because of a controversial immigration reform
bill, SB 1070, has passed the Arizona House of Representatives and
is on Governor Jan Brewer's desk awaiting a signature for passage.
She has until Saturday night to make her decision and as you can
imagine, she has been questioned over and over as to what her decision =

will be. So far, she's being silent and I think you can imagine why... =

The bill would enable police officers to determine immigration status of =

suspects involved in crime. The bill would also make it a crime for
immigrants to not possess valid immigration paperwork. Proponents contend=

the state must intervene where the federal government has failed to, in =

the wake of greater numbers of illegal immigrants and the recent murder =

of a rancher. Arizona currently spends more than $1 billion a year =

because of illegal immigration and may be running for extra cash soon =

if no solution is reached...

I realize the rest of the column will offend many, but given the growing=

sentiment of law abiding citizens in the country, my guess is that there=

will be many more in complete agreement, even if they aren't at liberty =

to voice their opinion...

That's what I do best, say things most wish they could...

As expected, several Latino members of the U.S. Congress have called for =

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer to veto the bill. They view it as a bill
that is discriminatory against an entire ethnic group and also are worrie=
d
that it will impede federal immigration authority. Isabel Garcia, a legal=

defender here in Arizona says the bill legalizes racial profiling...

Hmmmmmmm, NOW, "they" are concerned about citizen's rights and profil=
ing?
Did they, or do they rally when Middle Eastern people are profiled? No?=

Why? Because Middle Eastern people are all terrorists and a danger to
the citizens of the U.S.? Ask the people in Arizona, or the family
and the friends of the murdered rancher a few weeks ago if he was afraid=

of Middle Eastern people coming over the border and killing him...

For decades, black people have been profiled and I don't recall the
Hispanic community jumping on board to defend their human rights.

A Los Angeles Cardinal has blasted this bill, comparing the bill to the=

tactics of Nazi Germany and Russian Communism. Oh really? Maybe a little=

Gestapo action would have protected THOUSANDS of boys from being molested=

by Priests! Wrong cause Cardinal...

Yeah, I'm rolling now....

I watched the news tonight and saw the rallies around the city with
signs saying goofy things like, "We're not animals". "We have right=
s",
"Open the borders", yada, yada, yada. Hispanic kids boycotted school=

today and walked out of classes in protest...

Boy howdy, the graduation rate of Hispanics in Arizona is pitiful,
and unfortuately, some parents actually pull their kids from school
to help the family. I said "Some" so don't throw it back at me. While=

demanding how our state should be run, get your arses back in school,
get an education, and prevent the state from having to support you and =

any or all of the children you end up having...

Harsh crackdowns haven't worked in Arizona and the more the issue is
confronted, the more claims of racism that surface. Maybe if ENGLISH
was learned, they could grasp the word that makes this all a valid
argument...

Press 1 for ILLEGAL!!!

The "best" interview I saw on the newscast was a young mother, who =

said, in very broken English...(better sit down)...

"I don't want to raise my children here"...

Two words...Buh-Bye

Another woman told us something we already know. "People have been
coming here from other countries for years."

One word...LEGALLY

The ironic thing is this...Even the ones that are against this bill
and are fighting to squash it ALL agree that something needs to be
done regarding immigration, but never really give a concrete idea as
to the specifics. Let anyone that wants to come to the U.S. in?
Give amnesty to everyone already here and then in another ten years
do it again to cover the millions that crossed the border in that ten =

years?

On any given day, a car accident happens on dozens of intersections
with cameras. Turn on the news and you'll see the accident, the doors
to one of the vehicles open and people running away from the scene,
abandoning their vehicle right in the intersecion...

No car insurance? That's one reason, because afterall, it's a law to
carry car insurance for those if us who follow the law! The other
reason is when apprehended, nine times out of ten, they are here
illegally...

So, before you think I am anti-Hispanic, let me ask you a few questions=

and if you can give me a valid answer to them, I will personally go to =

a rally and hold up a sign that fully supports illegal immigration...

1...Why have I personally been subjected to insults when someone starts=

speaking Spanish and I politely tell them I do not speak Spanish?

2...Why did the order taker at the local McDonald's drive-thru not know=

English and couldn't take my order, which prompted the manager to come =

to the window and apologize, then take the order herself?

3...Why is McDonald's not looking over their hiring practices a little =

closer? There are laws on the books about hiring people that aren't
properly documented. The worker could have been here legally, I'm
not accusing her of not being an illegal, the issue here is why doesn't=

she speak English?

4...Why is the state of Arizona going bankrupt and health care facilities=

closing down because of the costs of treating illegal immigrants who
cannot be turned away in the Emergency room, yet never pay a bill for
the care? Just in case you tell me that part of the problem is uninsured=

Americans also causing the burden, I'll just say that if they are either=

born here or legally here, it's a cost that can't be helped, preventing=

added financial burden to an already cash-strapped state can be helped...=

5...Why do I have to "Press 1 for English"? What other immigrant grou=
p
enjoys the luxury of coming here and having everything printed in their=

native tongue and expect taxayers to carry the burden of the expense?

And last, but not least...

6...Why, all because of politics and the Hispanic voting block, are the=

people we vote into office willing to turn the other cheek and support =

something that is illegal to the detriment of the very country and
citizens they are supposed to represent?

There is fear all over the place regarding illegal immigration. Fear
of the crimes associated with it, fear of the expense to the states,
fear of being labeled a racist, fear of losing an election, fear of not =

being able to find cheap labor, fear of racial profiling, fear of not
being able to have a better life for the family, and fear that there is=

no solution...

The Statue of Liberty is a symbol, well known for welcoming immigrants =

to our country. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses =

yearning to breathe free" is part of the inscription that signifies
America's part in welcoming those from other lands, near and far. These=

people lined up and took the necessary measures to become citizens of
the United States of America. Years later, immigrants followed the rules=

and waited to enter, waited years to become citizens and did it according=

to the law. They embraced their new country, learned the language, and =

worked hard to not be a burden on their new country. As Americans, they=

had the right to gather and peacefully demonstrate, something most of =

them could never do in their homeland. When they were in public, they
waved the American flag, not their country of origin's flag, yet managed =

to keep their culture and heritage strong. Afterall, other than the Ameri=
can
Indian, NONE of us are original Americans and had ancestors come from
countries all over the world. The Statue of Liberty welcomes all of our=

ancestors to America for generations. If "she" could re-write parts o=
f
the inscription that welcomed immigrants to America, I wonder what it =

would say in 2010...

In Arizona, I bet it might say...

"Give me a break"...

We'll have to see what Governor Brewer does with this bill. If she doesn'=
t
sign it, it's still not a dead issue and can pass without her signature.=

The issue will not go away whether or not the bill gets passed...

Now, if you don't mind, I think I'll go find that erupting Volcano in =

Iceland. Something tells me that it might be safer hanging around it,
rather than hanging around here to read emails this weekend...

Have a great weekend everyone!

:-)
