Greetings from Chicago!
I'm enjoying my visit with my mom. Even though I talk to

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin in Madison
found that hearing your mother's voice can release
similar levels of the comforting hormone oxytocin as
a big "mama hug".
Researchers made 61 girls,ages 7 to 12, solve complex
speech and math problems in front of strangers. This
made their hearts race and shot up the level of the
stress hormone cortisol in their bodies...
The girls were then broken into three groups. One got
comforting hugs from their mothers, another talked with
their mothers on the phone, and a third group watched
he movie "March of the Penguins," which researchers
deemed "emotionally neutral."
Oxytocin rose in the first two groups at roughly equal
levels. As oxytocin levels increased (as revealed in
blood and urine samples), cortisol decreased...
Girls were studied because oxytocin responses are
stronger in females. In adult women, the hormone helps
prepare them for labor, birth and breastfeeding...

The stress hormone was decreased equally when the girls got
a hug from their mothers at the same rate as when they
heard their mother's voices over the phone...
I realize that there are those who cringe when they hear
their mother's voices and would rather swallow ground
glass than call their mothers, but it appears that
according to the studies, the majority of females don't
feel that way and you can count me as one that knows her
mothers voice can calm, soothe, and give me the same type
of security as a hug...
I once read that elderly people not only crave hugs, but
need them and can benefit emotionally and health wise by
getting that extra little attention that a hug can give...
I'm a firm believer in hugs, no matter who is giving them,
