March 3, 2010

Greetings...

I guess I'm on a roll the last few columns. The Sea World column
generated quite a bit of comments and mail, but Monday's column
really "lit up" the Internet, so to speak. While more people than
not agreed with me, it was obvious that the general feeling about
helping other countries when our own is in deep doo-doo was "enough
already", it was also obvious that most of the reactions were of
a personal nature and seeded in frustration over their own situations
or someone they know...

One comment sent to me in email voiced an opinon opposite of what I,
and many others expressed. Rather than paraphrase the comment, I
will quote it. To the reader who sent it, this is not an attack,
just a difference of opinion...

The comment...

"Most of us here in the USOFA have no idea what it's like
to be with out. When you have No place tosleep No place to go
for food your child is missing, sick, or dead, Then you would
know devastation. Lets not pretend we feel your pain."

First, I will assume that "your pain" is meant as a general statement=

to those who claim to understand and are sympathetic to those who
are in need and going through the aftermath of whatever catastrophe of =

tragedy they are going through, because the only pain I am in right
now is my right foot that happened to find its way under the gigantic =

paw of one "Moose dog"...

While I can understand many of us truly not knowing the pain of the
things that this reader mentioned, I don't think she realizes just
how many of our own citizens DO know, and live in the circumstances
mentioned. Our government can't help everyone with their hands out,
and there will always be those who "milk the system" to get what they=

don't deserve rather than be responsible. This is no different than
sending money to countries where their government is so corrupt, the
people never see a dime of the money sent or benefit from it in the form=

of aid...

People suffer as a result just as some of our citizens suffer because of=

the corruption in our own government!

My point is and was that money going out of the country is money that
could be spent on those in need here, on better care for our veterans
who proudly served their country, on food for the hungry. You can't
stick your head in the sand and believe that there aren't millions of
children that go to sleep hungry night after night. Is it as bad as
it is in a third world country that doesn't have what we have? I don't =

know, you'd have to ask an American who lost their home, their job,
their healthcare, and can't feed themselves or their family...

And, just in case I haven't rattled enough feathers, let me just say
that all the money that "churches", no matter which religious affilia=
tion,
have gotten over the years, the tax breaks and the vast amounts of
wealth and real estate they have accumulated, would be better served
helping their fellow man in a much bigger way...

Most religions preach modest wealth in favor of helping others, isn't it=

about time they practice what they preach? Remove the politics from
religion and maybe people will come back to what they have been leaving=

in droves for years...

A 5 million dollar church does nothing for a family in need, TV
evangalists, who are quick to ask for money, more times than not
use that money to support a lifestyle you and I can only dream
about. Before you write a diatribe about "your" church helping
the community, step back and understand that, as with everything
else I talk about, generalizations are given, not exceptions...

I see many church organizations rallying to help people...

In other countries...

Yep, I think I managed to go one further huh?

Change of subject. Flyboy is home this week, not because he's on
vacation, but because Mr. Macho pulled a muscle in his back at the
health club yesterday and doing a dang good impression of Tim Conway
on the old Carol Burnett show. (Younguns, ask an old person)...

I'm doing my best to pamper and spoil him although I go back and
forth between Florence Nightingale and Nurse Ratchett...

Florence Nightingale...I fluff his pillows, cook his favorite meals
and not let him do anything he shouldn't...

Nurse Ratchett...I yell "fire" to see if he's getting any better and=

ask him if he wants to race around the block since I could finally
win one...

Just kiddinggggggggggg...Having a bad back myself, that hurts more
days than not, I feel for him. Moose and Ginger, who are used to him
playing "chase me daddy" every night, are trying to figure why they =

were able to take his sock and not have him running behind to grab it. =

I've had to increase the playtime with them because a bored Dane is a =

dangerous Dane...

Hopefully, Flyboy will be better within a few days because I have already=

offered to take him to the casino and prop him up in front of a machine..=
.

Just to take him mind off his pain. What can I say, I'm just that kind =

of thoughtful wife...
