Greetings...

What can I say, other than apologize and explain my confusing mistake
on Wednesday. While writing about Kevin Smith and his problem with
Southwest Airlines, somewhere in the middle of the column his name
changed to "Kevin Nixon". I missed it completely and when I had
Flyboy read it as I often do before sending it out, also missed it
and was more focused on the story itself...

Why Nixon? Multitasking is the reason and excuse. I had an article
on my screen at the same time I was writing my column about Richard
Nixon because I had recently watched the movie Frost/Nixon...

I wish there was a better excuse, but the truth can sometimes be "borin=
g".
I apologize for the confusion and although one reader on the blog claimed=
it
was hard to take me seriously in my "arguments" because I got his nam=
e
wrong, I disagree totally, My arguments would have been the same had I ju=
st

said, "A man", and for those who may not know this, the pictures of K=
evin
Smith that have been published since the incident showing a large, but no=

overly obese man, may not also realize the pictures are older ones and it=

has been reported he is closer to, or more than 300 pounds...

Whatever your feelings on this story, I think we can all agree that thing=

were handled badly on both sides and while one side is doing damage
control, the other side is benefitting from the publicity he, himself =

generated when he chose to use the social network Twitter to tell the
"world" what happened...

I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't want to draw attention =

to my size and be the butt of many "fat jokes" that have surfaced sin=
ce
this happened. I'm too cynical to believe he did it just to be the voice=

of overweight people...

Twitter is a very popular social network of sorts where people send
messages out to anyone who is signed up to "follow" them and their =

"Tweets", which are the text message updates. Not being one who
"Tweets", I have a hard time understanding the importance of giving=

updates on your activity during the day and night...

Do people really care that much if you spent the day in the bathroom
with the flu or whatever else they feel the need to share with not
only people they know, but thousands of people they don't???

Privacy seems to be a thing of the past and with the Internet and
cell phones that can click pictures in seconds, worrying about
"Big brother" watching our every move, isn't something any of us
should worry about, John Q Citizen is all over the place clicking,
texting and using every bit of technology known to man to stalk
and invade other people's privacy with and without their knowledge...

I realize some of this technology has done some good at various times, =

but the ironic thing about all of this is that we are now a society
of "social misfits" to a degree. Kids today will text each other for=

hours, yet they won't pick up the phone or meet face to face. They
can't interact without a gadget in their hand and can barely carry
a conversation with others...

The more we move forward, the more we seem to lose...
