December 4, 2009

Greetings...

Poor Ginger was injured the other day when playing outside, her playing=

partner known lovingly as "Da MOOSE", somehow managed to hurt Ginger'=
s
front leg. I didn't see it happen, but we could hear them playing
outside and the thunder noises coming from them...

About an hour later I heard Ginger whimpering in pain and followed the =

sound to the family room where she was lying on the floor, in obvious
pain and definitely not herself...

When I touched her shoulder and right front leg, she screeched in
pain and off to the Vet we went. We didn't think she could walk
because she wouldn't try to get up when we were checking her out...

We got a sheet and Flyboy and my son were going to slide her on the
sheet and then carry her into the car via the sheet. On the other
end, they had a gurney ready for Ginger because let's face it,
carrying a Great Dane isn't the easiest thing to do!

Well...None of that was necessary because as soon as Ginger saw the
leash, she jumped up on three of her legs and bounced her way to
the door, tail wagging and looking like she was going to play at the
dog park!!!

They took X-rays and it appears she has a sprained right arm and shoulder=

and a possible bone fragment that may or may not be an issue. We have to=

take her to an Orthopedic Specialist with a copy of her X-rays...

She is better today and able to put a little weight on her foot, very lit=
tle,
but better than the other day. Moosie is bored to tears because Ginger ca=
n't
play and she doesn't quite get it that she caused this more likely than n=
ot,
but she has been quieter and happy that she gets a treat everytime the in=
jured
one gets something special. No one milks attention more than a Great Dane=

does!

So, that's what went on this week around here. I have to be honest and te=
ll
you I was crying my eyes out when I saw Ginger lying on ythe carpet whimp=
ering
in pain before we knew what it was. I had a bad feeling and it's a feelin=
g
always in the back of the head of any Dane owner...

Age doesn't matter when it comes to a Dane, and the fear never goes away.=
..

Have a great weekend everyone!

:-)
