Greetings...

Today is a very special day for my family, because it is my mom's
83rd birthday. Every day we have her with us is a gift because
she has had some health and vision issues the past few years that
although not life threatening, it has definitely taken a toll on
her mood and her strength...

She's not a complainer and although she does her best to make us
feel that she is fine and dandy, we can see it all in her face
and by the way she moves these days...

Her vision is getting better, but not enough to make her confident
in walking around places outside of her home. She is still suffereing
with the pain from Shingles and if I'm not mistaken, it's been nine
months since she came down with them. The pain is better, but the
fact that she still has pain is really what has worn her down and
depressed her at times, even though she tries not to show it...

My sister and I decided to try to make her birthday a little special
and try to take her mind off of her troubles, even if it is for only
a little while. We discussed going somewhere and talked about a few
different places including visiting me here in Arizona. Ordinarily,
my mom loves coming here, but since her vision problems started, she
is afraid the size of Moosie and Ginger may make her stumble or fall.
Since Danes are leaners and you can't stop them from leaning, I
understand why she wouldn't want to take a chance right now...

My sister and I decided to just ask my mom where she would like to
go after she initally says, "Oh honey, that's so nice, but...no,
thank you." Both of us bet that she would pick Vegas, just because
she hasn't been there in a few years...

As predicted, she said thank you and no and within five minutes said
she would like to go to Vegas...

Sooooo, this Wednesday, I will meet my mom and sister in Vegas to
spend a few days celebrating my mom's birthday. Flyboy has to go to
work in vegas on Friday and will be able to join in on the fun and
we all plan on doing whatever it takes to spoil and pamper my mom while=

we're all together!

So, I'd like to wish my mom a very happy birthday and wish her all
the best of health and happiness and tell her that while it is
customary to give the birthday person a gift, she has been and is
our gift each and every day...
