Greetings...

The next phase of "house renovation 101" started this morning. The =

painters are back, only this time they are painting the living and
dining room...

The preparation for this job kept me busy all weekend because in both
rooms, I have five cabinets filled with art and antique glass, as well =

as the china cabinet filled with china, glasses, vases and "stuff",=

mostly made of glass...

I was told that I didn't have to take all the glass out of the cabinets,=

they would do it. Yeah right. Most of the items I have I have collected =

since the early 80's, some sentimentally valuable, others monetarily
valuable. I don't think I want to trust the job to painters, not because=

they are painters, more like the fact they are men!

The way I look at it, I had to buy a new fridge because I thought the =

one I had bit the dust, not knowing the painters had power washed the
GFCI outlets, causing the power to shut off in half of the laundry room..=
.

Also, although it may be coincidental, one of the air conditioners stoppe=
d
working the day after they left. And yes, this time we flipped all the =

circuit breaker switches and one out of three units wasn't working. The=

AC guy is coming Wednesday and unfortunately for the guys, the unit not=

working is in the area they will be working with temps projected to be =

in the 90's the beginning of the week...

Given the "luck", I think it's a much better idea for me to take the=

time and extra care all of this glass needs to keep it "safe". The =

downside of having to pull all of the glass out is that I HAVE to wash =

each piece before cleaning the cabinets and putting it all away. I clean=

all the glass twice a year and it's about time, but I do one cabinet at=

a time usually and don't have every counter covered in glass figurines,=

bowls, etc.

They told me it should take them almost three days to finish this paint=

job because I have a 30 foot ceiling in the dining room and the colors =

I chose are notoriously the hardest colors to paint because they need
2-4 coats applied. No, I didn't pick black, I am having the walls painted=

gold and accented with red. Those two rooms are done in an Oriental motif=

in black, red and gold, so I'm taking a chance on the walls, which were=

white. Deep down, I'm hoping I won't have to pay them to go back to white=
!

Moosie and Ginger have just about had it with all of the coming and going=

from various workmen, not because they hate people coming over, it's more=

like them not being able to play with everyone that comes to the house.=

Two of the painters are absolutely petrified of the girls. Last week
Moosie went out in the back and I didn't know the guys were back there.=

I heard moosie bark and went to the door and saw the painter frozen
like a statue. The only things moving were his eyeballs, following
Moosie as she walked around, looking for a spot to relieve herself.
I'm not quite sure, but I think the painter did also!

I realize today's column is nothing but "fluff", but after Friday's c=
olumn
on the Immigration bill that was signed and put into law over the weekend=
,
I'd give everyone a chance to "breathe". The mail and the blogs were=

busy as you would imagine, and although the agreement rate was 99.999%,=

reading the replies made me sit back and ponder another topic that will=

probably be the hottest topic I have written about...ever

I'm a little precoccupied this week, but my brain is already busy working=

on it. Someone sent me an email on Friday telling me the topic was "bor=
ing"
because everyone doesn't live in the U.S. I realize most of the things I=

write about are geared more towards people in the U.S., but I promise
to do "better" real soon...
