December 14, 2009

Greetings...

Two weeks until Christmas. How's the shopping coming along? Are you
one who finished weeks, (or months) ago? Are you one who is still
waiting for last minute bargains? Or...

Are you one who needs to buy a few gifts for people you wish you
didn't have to buy gifts for?

That last question is the subject today...

Buying obligatory gifts...

We've all had to do it and probably still do it to some degree. This
is definitely the holiday for things to get out of hand and even with
the economy in not so great shape and people cutting back, there are alwa=
ys
gifts that have to be bought whether you want to or not...

How do you handle the "uh-oh, they gave me a gift and I don't have one=

for them" bit? Do you always have a few extra gifts on hand, "just in=
case"?

Do you have someone who always feels they have to "outdo" you and mak=
e
you feel lousy when your gift is not quite as extravagant?

Do you wish you could just put an end to gift giving between some friends=

and maybe even a few relatives you rarely see?

The above scenerios came in from three separate emails asking my opinion=

on this...

My answer would be...Heck if I know considering I've been there more than=

once myself and usually walk around mumbling to myself about it all... =

It's a very sticky situation trying to tell people to not exchange gifts=

if it's something you have done for a long time. One of the reasons is =

you don't want to come off as sounding cheap when in fact, that has nothi=
ng
to do with it. It can be a hassle, especially if you have to battle the=

crowds at the post office. Even if you print out your postage at home, it=

can take quite a bit of time to just get in the door to drop the package=

off...

Maybe not at your post office, but don't forget, I live in the land of =

the Snowbirds where people ahead of you are in line waiting to get a 2 =

cent stamp...

I do a lot of shopping online which may seem like a lazy way of doing
it, but I'm not one that enjoys shopping, so it works for me. I've still=

had to go to the post office and still had to get a few things I couldn't=

get online, but luckily for us, college kids want money!

I spent the last week baking dozens and dozens of cookies and ended up =

at the post office because I wanted to send my mom and sister some and =

then I packed up a box for Flypup. Post office wasn't so bad actually, =

or maybe it's because I was mailing things because I wanted to, not
because I had to...

So, where are you in all of this rambling? If you have any suggestions, =

head over to the blog and help out those who asked for suggestions. As =

you could see, I was no help...
