Electronic Pedometer
A cheap & fun way to stay fit...
http://pd.gophercentral.com/u/4054/c/186/a/25

June 25, 2010

Greetings...

Well, here we go again...

Another case of "someone" dictating on behalf of "us", in this ca= se,
our kids against an "evil" company...

A nonprofit consumer watchdog is threatening to sue McDonald's unless
= they stop using toys to market fast food to children. Yessiree, I'm
talking about Happy Meals...

Using toys to promote "Happy Meals" represents unfair and deceptive =
marketing and is illegal under various state consumer protection laws, =

according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a health
advocacy group that promotes nutrition, food safety, and pro-health
alcohol policies...

On Tuesday, CSPI served McDonald's a notice of its intent to sue, saying =
its toy-related promotions violate state consumer protection laws in

Massachusetts, Texas, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, and Californi= a.
The letter gives McDonald's 30 days to cease and desist before filing sui= t...

McDonald's response...

"We couldn't disagree more with the misrepresentation of our food and m= arketing

practices made by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI),= " said

William Whitman, McDonald's V.P. of Communications, in a statement. "In= the

U.S., McDonald's primarily advertises the four-piece Chicken McNuggets Ha= ppy

Meal which includes Apple Dippers, low-fat caramel dip and one% low-fat w= hite

milk. We are proud of our Happy Meal which gives our customers wholesome = food

and toys of the highest quality and safety. Getting a toy is just one par= t of a

fun, family experience at McDonald's."

In this particular case, I hope Mickey D's wins and wins BIG, and I'll te= ll
you why...

There are probably more readers than not that have been raised with McDon= ald's
in their lives and raised their children with regular visits to the palac= e
of the golden arches. Many of you, (myself included), probably still have=
some Happy Meal toys packed away in an attic, and I'll go out on a limb=
and say that most of our kids weren't obese because of eating Happy Meals= ...

I also don't believe a Happy Meal is the reason today's kids are grossly =
overweight, there are bigger reasons and this is a smokescreen to hide
= some of the bigger "touchier" reasons and issues...

If one word could be taught over and over, maybe there wouldn't be half=
the problems in the world that only cause the government and advocacy
groups to stick their noses where they shouldn't belong. That word is...=

MODERATION...

One Happy Meal will NOT kill anyone, 5 a day is another story and if your=
kid is under 16 and eating that many Happy Meals a day or week, then the=
PARENT is the cause of the problem, not McDonald's because Mayor McCheese=
isn't driving the kid to get the Happy Meal, the parents are!!!

If "your" brat throws a tantrum because he/she can't go to McDonald's= to
get a Happy Meal and "you" relent, rather than be a parent, then it i= s
"you" that should be sued, not McDonald's...

While the Happy Meal toy has always been a big part of the meal and
even brought in big money by collectors years ago, I fail to believe
they should be banned because people haven't learned to control themselve= s
or their kids...

Why are cigarettes still legal? Why is booze legal? People die when they=
smoke and people subject themselves and others to all sorts of problems=
when moderation isn't used when they drink?

Why not get rid of these things before kids are old enough to try them?=

Afterall, it's all about knowing what's best for us and our kids...

Nah, this advocacy group is full of crapola and I'm actually glad that
= McDonald's is a financial powerhouse and will be able to fight this,
which we know they will...

Isn't it sad that again, our kids may have to grow up without some of
the "simple" things we all had while growing up? Stop blaming McDonal= d's,
blame the same ones who have gotten this generation to where they are...=

The parents...

Maybe those of us who are older should try to help the younger parents
= by teaching them a simple word WE all grew up with and taught our own
kids. It's an easy word, but not always easy to say. It's even a pretty=
universal word known by people who don't even speak English. It's also
= a word that can sometimes save a life, prevent a disaster, and teach
a youngster that a parent is in charge...

What is that word?

NO!

:-)

Have a great weekend everyone!
