May 14, 2010

Greetings...

Flyboy and I are heading to Tucson early in the morning to attend our son=
's

college graduation at the University of Arizona. This is a two-day event,=

although we won't be staying overnight. We will head back on Saturday for=

the second "graduation", so to speak. The first day is a graduation=

ceremony for the Mining Engineer students and the second day is the
ceremony for the whole school...

Our son, like many other students, did the "five year plan" because=

again, like many other students entering college, decided partying
was a prerequisite the first year and a half. When the straight A
high school student started getting D's, which also stood for "Dumb-A**=
",
Flyboy and I had the infamous, "come to Jesus" meeting. Those, in cas=
e
you're not familiar, are little talks that involve parental counseling =

and a LOT of threats!

It worked. He buckled down, graduated with a 3.8 grade point average
and was hired immediately with a company he interned with over the
past two Summers. It's a very large mining company and not only will
they be giving him an $8,000 moving allowance to get settled in Safford=
,
Arizona, his starting salary will be $70,000.00 dollars! Needless to =
say,
we are very proud of him and reminded him how lucky he is to have walked=

into a job like this given the economic condition around the country...=

I also reminded him how lucky he has been all these years to have a
step-mom like me...Hehehehehehehe

The younger one, who will be a Junior at the University of Arizona this=

Fall, is the real brain wiz of the two. Majoring in Astro-Physics and
getting straing A's the first two years, was just approached by NASA to =

work with them over the Summer, so his search for a Summer job ended befo=
re
it began...

An "interesting" side-note to the graduation festivities is that thei=
r
"mother", and I use that term very loosely, is making an appearance=

after an almost 10-year absence in their lives. Before you get the
"warm fuzzies" thinking how nice that is, keep in mind her kid just=

got a job for 70 grand, if you get my drift...Ahem...

So, another school year has passed with good things happening for our
boys and it had a bit of an impact on me when I thought about it. I
realized, that for the first time since I have been with Flyboy, almost=

eleven years, there will be no kids here during the Summer...

I know there are a lot of moms that would look at this and feel a pang =

of emptiness, a sense of loss, a moment of sadness, but you know what? =

If you meet one of those moms, give them my regards...

:-)

Have a great weekend everyone!
