Greetings...
A funny thing happened to me while I was in Vegas, although it seems
that it has been happening to me more and more every day...
I don't know if it's my age that's starting to dictate my feelings,
reactions, or opinions, but it's definitely something that I'm more
aware of today than I was in the past...

The disgust at the way young girls are dressing these days and yep, I

realize I sound like an old fuddy duddy who needs to get a grip...
When Flyboy and I were in Vegas, we went over to the Palms after the
wedding was over and everyone scattered their separate ways. Having
been to the Palms on several occasions, I already knew that the crowd
there is a much younger crowd and I also realize at this point, that
most crowds lately seem to be younger than I am...
The place was jam-packed because there was Ne-Yo concert there, which
added to the amount of young people. Unfortunately, when we decided to

leave was the exact time the concert finished, which also means that
everyone headed to the cab line outside in very cold weather...
There were roughly 500 people waiting for cabs and although the line
moved, it still took over 45 minutes to get your cab. Did I also mention=
it was fricken' FREEZING outside???
Since we had plenty of time to people watch, we couldn't help looking at =
the young girls, ages 21-25 and the way they were dressed, or should I =
say...UNdressed?
I grew up in the era that invented the mini-skirt and all I can say is
=
the mini skirt of yesteryear was like a floor length skirt next to the
=
the semi-skirts these girls wore. They barely covered their tonsils!!=
!
The only thing lower than their hemline was...their tops! I got to see=
big boobs, small boobs, peek-a-boo boobs, and the ever present...fake boo=
bs...
We're not talking one or two girls here, were talking a MINIMUM of 80% of=
the girls walking around and speaking of walking, they all had skyscraper=
high
stilleto heels that, at one point, made Flyboy mention that girls today s=
ure
seem taller than they used to be. I had to point out their shoes because=
quite frankly, he wasn't looking at their feet and I certainly can't blam=
e him
because I couldn't help staring so for those women who get mad if their g=
uys
look at other women/girls...give them a break, unless he has a seeing eye=
dog, there's no way he won't be ABLE to look!!!
It's pretty sad when you can't tell the difference between a concert goer=
and a Las Vegas "working girl"...

One could argue that the phrase, "if you got it, flaunt it" should ma=
ke
me keep my opinions to myself, but the other issue is, "if you have TOO=
MUCH of it, cover it up"!!! If you're so oblivious to the fact th=
at a
size 20 cannot, and should not try to wear what a girl in a size 2 is wea=
ring,
then your mirror needs recalibrated and someone close to you owes you a=
painful bit of honesty. Do these kids have parents? Good friends? Fashion=
police? If your abdomen is lower than your hemline, is that something any=
one
really wants or needs to see? Is the "muffin top" the new fashion sta=
tement
in the world of "hip"? It must be because everywhere I go I see young=
girls
STUFFED into skimpy clothes that do nothing for them and give my retinas=
a painful burn!
I realize times and things change. We wore maternity tops for comfort and=
to
cover the enlarging "bump". Not anymore, pregnant women now wear THE =
shortest
and tightest tops to "highlight" their condition. Okee dokee, whateve=
r floats
your boat...
Raising kids is the hardest job on the planet and peer pressure is and ca=
n
be the biggest obstacle to teaching your kid the basics, let alone etique=
tte
and yes, even fashion. However...Parents have gotten lazy and self-absorb=
ed
in their own trauma and turmoil and would rather turn a blind eye than gi=
ve
these kids what they need...Time, education and... discipline...
