Greetings...

With so much focus on bullying and some very tragic events due to
bullying, I started to think about the whole issue of bullying.
Although anyone, no matter what age can be considered a bully,
the "groups" most associated with being a bully are usually kids,
teens, and young adults...

Bullying is not a new thing by a long shot. Ask most adults about
their childhood and you will most certainly find one or more than
a few that can recount some horrific incidences in their childhood
at the hands of a bully...

What has changed is the way the bully can do their dirty deeds. The
socialization of our society gives them an opportunity the take the
bullying to a whole new level and create fear, terror and danger to
their victim or victims...

When a kid used to be bullied, it was in a school in a neighborhood
with very few people ever knowing about the kid being bullied. The
kid usually kept quiet for fear of making it worse. Now, the whole
world can witness someone getting bullied...

The Internet, text messaging and the always available camera phone
can and is being used as a terror device of sorts. Terror is fear
which is why I am calling these things terror devices...

By themselves, these things are great advances in technology and
most of us use these things on a daily basis, but in the hands of a
bully, they can be menacing tools used to inflict acts of "terrorism"...

A cellphone is a wonderful device, in the hands of someone that wants
to inflict harm on people, it can be used as a detonating device, which
would give that person the name "terrorist"...

If a person bullies another person using the same device and it causes
another human to lose or take their own life, they too should be considered
a terrorist for their actions. Stricter laws need to be put in place to
send a strong message to the bullies!!!

Being bullied as a kid may or may not have a lasting impact depending on
the extent of the bullying, but I wonder how many people actually have
decided to never go to one of their high school reunions because of the
treatment they received when they were in school...

Kids are kids and have been since the beginning of time. Kids can be cruel,
call other kids names, fight and then forget all about it and get along
ten minutes later, but this is a new kind of warfare and parents and schools
really need to take an active role in educating kids on the consequences
of bullying...

Everyone can't be popular, everyone can't be a sports jock, everyone can't
be a cheerleader. Those who aren't deserve to enjoy their school years
and lives just as much as those who feel they are "the chosen ones"...
