April 30, 2010

Greetings...

Have you ever been so tired that along with the tiredness, it also
dawns on you that you're not only slowing down because of the exteme
amount of work you're doing, but the age you are now may have something =

to do with it? Boy, what a sobering thought!

The painting is offically done in and out of the house. The results are=

better than I even expected. As the job was "winding down", Flyboy as=
ked
the owner for a stack of flyers to put in the pilot lounge because someon=
e
is always looking for a good painter and he would be glad to help him out=

since he is always looking for new business...

I wish it could have "ended" on such a positive note and today, I com=
e
to you, my trusted readers, who always have an opinion. Two things happen=
ed
that left a "bad taste" in my mouth so to speak regarding the owner o=
f the
company...

Tha painters were putting the furniture back in place. The owner came
back to see the finished job and of course, collect the money for the
living room and dining room, which was $1,500.00. He was paid $6,000.=
00
for his work on the outside last week. I only tell you this to make it =

understood that he did OK by having us as new customers...

While they were all in the dining room, Flyboy and I were in the kitchen=

when we heard, crash, bang, and the sound of broken "something". I ha=
d
removed all of the glass from the cabinets which were all safely put in=

the kitchen and besides holding my breath, I also wondered what had
broken. Fully expecing someone to come into the kitchen to give us the =

"bad news", no one popped in. It took 15 minutes for the owner to "=
fess
up" to what had happened. Why didn't run in there you ask? Because,
quite frankly, I was holding my breath and I could hear everyone talking=

so I knew no one was hurt...

He finally told us what had broken. Seven pieces of my china, mostly cups=
.
They told me the china would be safe and didn't have to be moved, which w=
as
on the dining room table and was supposed to be covered when they were =

painting. (I'm still wondering why there was paint overspray on all the=

china which had to be put in the dishwasher)...

WAYFARER STYLE SUNGLASSES

Retail Price: $39.99
DEAL PRICE: $3.99

These classic and always popular Wayfarer style sunglasses have
never been more affordable. At $3.99 you'll want to stock up.

They are perfect for the beach or any activity. It's the Wayfarer
Style... your probably more familiar with it if I say Tom Cruise
in Risky Business, The Blues Brothers, Will Smith, etc...

Sunglass styles come and go but this style remains popular
and stylish. Two reasons for this:

1. Rugged and built to last. You won't have to worry about
anything flimsy or breaking off on these.

2. The lens color is very dark. It's so hard to find a real
dark pair of glasses anymore.

Drop them, toss them... they can take it! These will last you a
long, long time. To grab a pair or two, visit:

"I'm sure sorry about that, I sure hope they weren't antique or valuabl=
e"

"Uh, (semi-speechless, which you KNOW doesn't happen to me often), they=

weren't antique, but a gift from my mom and my DEAD father!"

"I'm sorry about that"...

He comes to get the check and foolish me, thought he "might" try to m=
ake
some kind of good faith effort for breaking my china. No amount of money=

would change the sentimental factor, but as a business owner, I really =

thought there would be SOME kind of adjustment. This really isn't about=

money because I gave the two painters $100.00 each as a tip for the
excpetional job they did. No, this about principle and the character
of the owner in my opinion...

I wrote the check, made a few sarcastic remarks about the "deal" I go=
t
considering I lost china and had to buy a new fridge because his guys
power washed the elctrical outlets. Still nothing and on his way he went.=
..

After he left, Flyboy and I, who obvioulsy have been married a while, BOT=
H
went for the flyers and threw them in the garbage. Again, not because the=

painting was inferior...

Now, comes the "Big one"...

Since I always vent my frustrations in good, hard, work, I rolled up my=

sleeves and went into the dining room to start the tedious job of cleanin=
g
and putting the rooms back together. While I was in there, I noticed all =

vertical blinds in the living and dining room were not closed, but drawn =

to the side, which I never do, and then I noticed something else that boi=
led
my blood...

Most of the blinds were warped, curled and basically, deformed. The paint=
ers
had taken them down the day before and layed them on a tarp OUTSIDE while=

they painted. Outside as in "today is going to be 96 degrees"!!=
! Most of
them were ruined and when Flyboy attempted to close them to see how many=

were ruined, they looked like they were all drunk, bending every which =

way and of course, wouldn't close...

Did any of you hear me explode and yell? I think it was registered as an=

8.5 on the Richter scale...

The usually mild-mannered Flyboy also exploded which tells you in itself=

how bad they look because ordinarily, I don't think he would have noticed=

a person hanging from the blinds, let alone "curvy" blinds...

He grabbed the phone and called "Van Gogh" and told him what happened=
and
HOW it happened...

"I'm sure sorry about that"...The Richter scale had no measurement fo=
r that
explosion...

I did what I usually do when I have an "issue". I write a letter beca=
use I
much more in control in print than in person or over the phone when I'm =

upset, make that livid. I used the words "principle and character" a =
few
times in my letter...

I sent the letter, if for nothing else, to make ME feel better and then=

planned what to do with this ugly mess covering my windows. These were =

custom verticals that I customized even more when I got them. I called =

the place I got them from, hoping they still had records from eight years=

ago. The answer was a "good news/bad news" deal. My original order wi=
th
all my window coverings were there, but the type of vertical blinds I got=

in the living room and dining room are no longer made. The company went=

out of business. I didn't even know Hunter went out of business!

Well, I can't live with these, so I made an appointment for the designer=

that originally worked with me to come over and we'll figure out what
to pick and have the windows re-done...

Trust me, I KNOW most of you are wondering why I didn't jump and stop
payment on the check. Quite simply, Im not looking for a "freebie". T=
he
guys did the job and well. I'm giving the owner a day or two to respond =

to my letter and I'll take it from there, even if I have to do it legally=
.

These blinds were not cheap and it's not a case of me tiring of them and=

wanting new ones. I love them! I just feel the owner of the company sho=
uld
pay for them, even if it ends up costing more than the paint job, which i=
s
very likely. I'm not a contractor, but he is licensed and bonded. Wouldn'=
t
he be able to claim this on his end?

There are times when "I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it and to me, this =
is one
of those times. Talk is cheap and so was that apology!

So, what do you think? Am I looking at this wrong or do you think I have=

a right to make the owner accountable for this fiasco?

What a week, and i didn't even tell you about one of the air conditioners=

stopping for whatever reason (it probably was power-washed). That was
fixed today...Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm thinking that the identity theft that I am currently going through =

might be better left alone. They're spending less than us!

:-)

Have a great weekend everyone!
