Greetings...
The divorce rate is something that can't be ignored, even when
people are excitedly planning their own wedding. If you are lucky
enough to still be married to your first husband or wife, you have
no doubt, been around a friend or loved one that has gone through
the painful process of divorce and make no mistake, even when people
decide to end a marriage, it's an emotional event...
In Japan, the divorce rate is also climbing, with the average of
marriagr dissolutions creeping up to 250,000 a year.A discussion
about divorce between two friends in Japan inspired one of them to
take the end of a marriage and turn it into a postive and happier
experience to be shared among friends and family...

When the friend remarked that there should be an official get-together =
to mark the death of a marriage, not just the birth, he agreed to organiz=

a "divorce ceremony" for the friend and even acted as the officiant. =
But
what started as a favor to a friend has turned into a full-time gig for =
him. A year after he held that first monumental event, his waiting list =
now tops 500...

The price of the "party" is roughly 33.00 per person and once the cou=
ple
smashes their rings, they throw them in a festive pink frog. There may
=
be a speech or two, usually from a fellow divorcee that offers insight
=
to divorce. The day ends with a "congratulations" to the divorced cou=
ple...
As amusing and humorous as this may all sound, it really is designed to=
help a couple through a painful experience and create closure. In a few=
cases, some couples have actually called off the divorce and when one
couple kept missing the rings with the mallet, after three tries they
decided it was a sign to stay together and celebrated with their friends=
and family!
Kind of unique don't you think? Do you think this would work where you
=
live? I do think it could work only if the couple is going through a
civil divorce without any major anger or violent tendencies. The last
think anyone would want is to have either soon to be ex-spouse using a =
frog mallet to smash their soon to be ex in the face!
Otherwise, it could work and since a Frog mallet might not be for
everyone, I think a ceremonial cutting of a ball and chain might be
symbolic...
Ahhh, the gag gifts that could be given. I'm sure you'll all share a few=
good ones...
