Greetings...

Our house is officially running on solar power! Two meters were put
on the side of the house where one meter used to be. One is a new
digital electric meter to measure the electric we are using, and
the other meter is the solar meter to measure the power we are producing.= ..

It's pretty cool seeing the two meters in action. When we are using more=
power than we are producing, an arrow points to the right and blinks,
the faster the blinking, the more power we are paying for. When the
arrow points to the left, we are producing more than we are using and
the arrow on the solar meter will blink rapidly to show we are producing=
power. The interesting thing has been seeing how much of the day we
produce more than we use! I can't wait to see how it reflects in the
= electric bill in the next month or two. We are entering the hottest
time of the year, but luckily, the peak hours of heat are also the
peak hours of sunshine...

Having the system running has been a little tiring though...

I can't help it, but I run out a few times a day to watch the meters.
I know, I need a life!

On a totally different note, (because my mind wanders), I have noticed
= something with a few of the TV shows I watch. I'm a sucker for the
cooking competition shows. Whether it's Top Chef, The Next Food Star,
Top Chef Masters, Chopped and even Hell's Kitchen, even though I think =
Ramsey is over the top and I can't believe anyone would or should treat =
their prospective chefs in the manner he does...

That being said, I have been curious about something that I have noticed.=
None of the chefs seem to keep their hair out of their way when they are=
cooking. Some "may" wear a bandana or pull their hair back in a pony= tail,
but for the most part, you see chefs sweating, (sometimes in the food),=
hair flying all over the place and generally, some rather poor hygiene
= habits that kind of make me cringe because to me, finding a hair in one's=
food in a restaurant is one of the grossest think you can find. (I said=
"one" of them)...

I realize the hair nets of days gone by were the goofiest looking things=
on Earth, but they were used for a purpose and I found myself wondering=
why and when the practice ended...

I'm very careful around the kitchen when it comes to cooking and
always have my hair completely out of the way because let's face
it, sweep any floor and you will find hairs, human, or non-human.=

I find it hard to believe all of the chefs I have watched haven't lost a =
hair or two in the frenzy of these competitions.

I guess I'm just curious in this day of overdoing the anti-bacterial
craziness, the prescribing antibiotics at the drop of a hat to the point=
they aren't even working anymore, and over-protecting kids to the point=
that they seem like the UNhealthiest generation in recent history, the
= simple practice of protecting food from hair is overlooked...

Maybe I'm over-reacting, maybe not, but it was an observation that kept=
repeating itself no matter which cooking show I watched!

And, before I go, I want to wish all the dads out there a very happy
Father's Day this Sunday. Mom's day usually gets all the attention,
but make no mistake, dad's are important too! Enjoy the day...
